Kiteforum.com and FLYSURFER X-Mas Riddle 2009 Question 2
As some of you may already know, we at
FLYSURFER do not only produce state of the art kites and boards, we are also equally successful with our brand
skywalk paragliders, being one of the world’s leading paraglider manufacturers with respect to consistent innovation.
This aeronautical knowhow serves as the foundation of our ongoing
research and development. It is our quest to implement this theoretical knowledge into highly functional product features which, such as the
lift-to-drag ratio on a kite.
The lift-to-drag ratio is an important performance criteria of a kite, and respectively to other aircraft.
In an airplane it describes the glide ratio, how far an airplane will glide from a certain height.
It also determines how much fuel is consumed by the airplanes engines.
The high lift-to-drag ratio of a kite results in the following advantages:
- good upwind riding, especially in light winds
- less lateral force that pulls you downwind
Our question for this week is:
Which lift-to-drag ratios do the following aircraft possess? A. High performance sailplane
e.g. the eta1 © Leichtwerk.com
B. High performance paraglider (LTF 2-3)(e.g. the skywalk POISON2 Race carver

C. Average tubekite Please answer all three items. We’ll sum up the percentaged difference of all the 3 numbers.
Whoever has the smallest difference overall wins a
FLYSURFER CONNECT Harness and a Promotional package (consisting of banners, Flags and a
FLYSURFER ZIPPO (
