I went mid of May 2008 to Texas (Corpus Christi) and just rode shorts. Nice and warm.
Winds can be strong (30 knots)! But also lighter...I would bring a complete quiver.
I'm sure there will be a list of places to stay on the website...or contact them via the site.

You don't need a wetsuit there now (mid-February)! let alone May.
The contest definitely looks sicknasty. It's nice to have a competition for amateurs to compete against each other. And South Padre is a kickass place to host it. For those of you who haven't been there, it has super consistent winds, huge beach access, and very few kiters for some unknown reason. That place has an absurd amount of untapped potential .
Anyone know the which airport is the cheapest to fly into?

Brownsville airport is a little closer to SPI than Harlingen. Southwest only flies into Harlingen . I think there is a cheap shuttle from Brownsville to SPI.

I found a helpful page on how to get to South Padre Island for the SPI Kite Round-Up in May.
They have listed all the close airports, which airlines fly into them, shuttle transportation, and free buses. This should help everyone with figuring out how to get to South Padre Island.
