where to go in the Caribbeans (March/April)

My wife and I both kite and are looking for a nice place to go for our Honeymoon.
We want :
- good constant wind in the 15-25 knots range.
- warm weather
- flat and Turquoise colored water if possible.
- We would like to be a hotel right on the beach where you can kite.
We are departing from LA, so we thought of Hawaii but it seems the hotel and the kite beach are on opposites side of the island, the winds are 25knots and above and the season is later around May.
So We are now looking for at the Caribbeans.
Is Cabarete a good destination to go? Will the winds be constant enough in April?
What other islands in the Caribbeans should I look at ?
Thanks.

Congratulations with getting married!
Have a look at this free online dvd for nice places to kite in the Caribbean:
www.freestyle-dvd.com
My favorite place is the Grenadines....
www.grenadines-bougainvilla.com
You can kite in the lagoon just in front of this hotel...

Wow - now I'm really confused. I was all set for Cabarete looked like a great place , great hotel on the kitebeach, reasonable prices etc, but it now seems like April is a bit too early in the year.
I am looking into places in the South Caribbeans.
hey "Ilovekitesurfing" thanks for the link to the video - I'm still downloading it. maybe it will help me.

Congratulations!
I'm still in search for the perfect kitesurfing woman... but I know where I would bring her for Honeymoon...
3 years ago, I took some time off and spent most of it "island hopping" from Margarita (El Yaque) to Coche to Cubagua to Grenada to the Grenadines to Barbados (Silver Rock) to Dominique to Martinique to Dominican Republic (Cabarete, Las Terrenas, Las Galeras) to Cuba... took me 8 months and I was kitesufing all along!!!
Many spots are amazing for kiteboarding or just plain beautiful... I tend to look for the laidback small genuine places more than the big resorts... but to me, one place stands out as exceptionally world class beautiful: Los Roques (Venezuela)!
This is an amazing coralian Archipelago made of 40 white sand islands/islets. It is the biggest marine national park in the Carribbeans, you are only allowed to live on one island: Gran Roque and there is only one small village with nice little Possadas right on the beach... not a single ugly air-conditioned all-inclusive hotel in sight... only a few happy quality and nature conscious tourists... heaven!
You can ride from Gran Roque in front of your possada, but it so much cooler to go to the "harbour" where small fishermen's boats will take you to the island of your designation; complete with coolers, chairs, picknick, umbrella and your private gear. You get to chose your beach, just to make sure that there is nobody else on it... other people will be dropped on the next beach...
Super flat waters, coral reefs, waves, island crossings, downwinds... just plan ahead on your map of the Archipelago and ask "your" fisherman where/when to pick you up!
There is only one kiteboarding "school" which is not open all year and has no phone (maybe it has changed...). Find a way to reach them and ask when is the best season. It is not a "cheap kiteboarding holiday" destination... but it's your Honeymoon!!!
In this region of the world, except for some remote islands in the Grenadines, nothing compares with Los Roques for sheer natural beauty!
... as soon as I find the perfect woman, I go back!

Congrats!
http://web.mac.com/caribbeankitesurfari ... lcome.html
we do sailing trips through the caribbean, mostly the grenadines as the kiting there is so prefect and so many different spots to hit. we use a 57' sailboat as the base and a 26' 225hp speedboat to get around the different spots once we are in the island chain.
http://web.mac.com/caribbeankitesurfari ... Guide.html
If sailing isnt your thing, i can also put you in touch with a bunch of different places to stay in the islands close to nice spots. the one mentioned in union island is a great spot. right by the kitespot with many more nearby but you want a boat to get most out of the places.
march/april is usually a good time to come down this way and we have space from mid march to mid april.
Los Roques is beautiful but full of tourists. if you really want a nice get away in venezuela you wanna hit the island of tortuga, perfect kiting with flat water and waves and one small posada to stay in.

Hi,
maybe our wind statistics for the Caribbean can help you with your decision (at least for the part about getting enough wind
):
http://www.windfinder.com/windstats/win ... ibbean.htm
Please note that these statistics are generated using real measurements, not just forecast values. Click on a wind arrow to see detailed statistics for that spot.

that windfiner might be realtime but where are your sensors?? not at the kitespots
I know that the st lucia one is on the west coast or something in a sheltered area, average of 8 to 11 knots year round?????? WTF
I have been kiting in 20 knots many many times and seen 5 to 10 on your sensors ..... i since gave up looking at windfinder for reports.

Hi,
you can look up the location for all of our wind sensors and forecast points. Go to your preferred forecast page, e.g. for Vieux Fort / St. Lucia:
http://www.windfinder.com/forecast/vieux_fort_st_lucia
In the head of the forecast block you will find the geographical position along with a link to Google Maps:
Lat/Lon: 13.75 -60.95 [
Map]
In this case, the wind sensor is located at the airport.
If you have access to a local wind sensor near a kitespot, don't hesitate to contact us! You will receive a free ad banner on windfinder.com in return.

Jonas
