Kiteboarding is relatively tame compared to many sports (though some think it's hardcore).

The list of very strong athletes who thought they were unbreakable... is endless.

It's just a matter of how many hits to a given body part..no matter who you are pj :

Boxing (Mohammed Ali and many others) - head trauma.
American Football - knee, shoulder, back, head trauma.
Motocross - wrist, ankle, knee, shoulder (AC joint), hip, collarbone, etc, etc.
Skateboarding - wrist, ankle, neck whiplash, head.
Baseball Pitcher - shoulder.
Snowboard - ankle, wrist, neck whiplash.
Kiteboard - knee, ankle, shoulder, neck whiplash.

The list goes on..... Youri Zoon viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2381243

Nothing is free. You wanna play hard, you pay the price.

Kiteboarding is actually safer and has a lower frequency of injuries than many other popular sports like american football, soccer, basketball, handball etc.

When pumping up the kite turns out to one of the most dangerous things you can do in kiteboarding because of backstrain . . . I think we have finally made the transition over to a sport that is relatively safe.

Due to kiteboarding?

One good thing about getting older is not having to worry about paying the price! I've got one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peal!Been charging hard for 40 years now and still feel good! Feel bad for those who are raking up the injuries.Good thing you can have fun at all levels of kiteboarding-- Oldanunbroken

pj - Impact is impact, my example of Youri Zoon (very well conditioned young athlete) but he's made of the same stuff as anyone.
He simply charged much harder than you, and tore his shoulder.
Ruben beat his ankle..the list goes on.
If you've not broken or torn anything, then you always stayed well within safe limits and hurrah for you, others have not.
Price to pay...medical costs don't discriminate age, and when it comes, it comes.
I agree, the good news with kiteboarding is you can go as easy or as hard as you like.
My father is 92, so I might need to make my parts last for another forty plus years! :o ..

I hear ya. Always wondered though how genetics play a part on staying uninjured. Many athletes seem to have certain weaknesses in various body parts that seem to manifest during training/competition. Predisposition for things like acl injuries etc. Many careers cut short by constant injuries, others no major problems. ?
