Jericoacoara Brazil Pregnant

Postby elmarco » Wed May 08, 2013 2:00 am

I'll be in Brazil for 2 weeks with my wife who will be 5 months pregnant at the time.
We're looking to go up to Fortaleza and out to Jericoacoara. (or anywhere in between)
I'll have my gear, and I'm a somewhat advanced wave and wake style rider.
My wife will be looking to relax, be super comfortable hanging out by a pool with everything she needs nearby.
Ideally, we want a place right on a kite beach, but it's hard to find relatively nice places right on the best kite beach.
My next thought was to have a place on a nice beach that I can either end or start a down winder (Jeri?)
Open to going just about anywhere, but I just need somewhere I can kite just for an hour or 2 and be back hanging out relaxing with my wife.
This will be in July, so southern Brazil is too cold.
Any ideas anyone?

Hey Elmarco,
I'd agree that Cumbuco will probably have some better overall services available than any other place along the coast although I've heard great about Flecheiras (=Guajiru) too. In Jeri I think most kite places are all a bit away from the water, but there's lot of activity going on in Jeri. Either way any of those places are really nice and will suit your pregnant wife just fine. The only thing I can think of is that they are all located on the ocean as supposed to a lagoon.

If you're looking to ride a flatwater lagoon I'd say Ilha do Guajiru is the place to go from a pure kiting perspective, but the places to stay will be significantly smaller than what you can find in either Flecheiras and Cumbuco. In Ilha do Guajiru you're best options would be the newly opened (small) resort WhiteWater Winds or the Windvillage. Both places can be found on the internet so you can check 'm out

As for non-kiting activities for your wife....I would suggest cumbuco simply because its the biggest and offers a greater variety of shops and food etc

Good luck

awesome advice.
I'm checking into those places now.
Can you kite right off the resorts in Cumbuco?
Or any of those places?

I lived in Jeri for a couple of years. Villa Bela Vista is great and they will take really good care of her!

Jeri has nice places to stay. But kiting is done far upwind or downwind. And no bigger hospital close by.

Paracuru has a hospital, on low tide flat water and high tide an excellent wave. But no resort on the beach.

Guajiru should have a hospital in Trairi, about 20 min away. Nice resorts like Rede Beach. Soe wave also.

Ilha do Guajiru is flat to chop, no wave. Calm relaxing athmosphere. Stay right next to the water. Hospital about 10 min away.

Cumbuco has closest hospital 15 min away and big and private hospitals 30 min.
1-2 m wave, two lagoons with flat water. Several nice places on the beach, e.g. Duro Beach.
Also a bigger resort (Vila Gale) with nice wellness for the lady. It is about 5 min by car from Cumbuco village, all in, right at a wave spot and next to the famous Cauipe lagoon.

Your choice! Enjoy Brazil!

Have traveled NE Brazil extensively over the past 10 years with partner plus our kiting son. My lady likes her comforts plus likes to watch us kite. We try 1 or two new hotels and spots each year kite and our order of preference so far is.

Golfinho Hotel in Cumbuco

Rede beach, Guajiru - 90 km past Cumbuco.

Itaca hotel, Cumbuco is nice (expensive) but hotel and pool is slightly detached from the beach by a wooden fence.

But Golfinho definitely top of the list - is now our default setting for the first 4/5 nights in Brazil, is also the most cost effective. Restuarant a bit boring for evening meal but plenty options 5 minutes away in Cumbuco village.
Can do downwinders from there to Cumbuco and on to Villa Gale and Caupie Lagoon, or any place in between, with good (for N. Brazil) waves on the way, plenty of commercial buggies on this stretch to take you back :thumb:

You guys have some great feedback, I have some work to do tonight!
Usually when we travel we don't stay anywhere longer than 2-3 nights and we bounce around.
That sounds like the way to go in NE Brazil, but we really want to make sure we're comfortable and not worrying about anything with her being pregnant and all.
Would you stay in one place down there for 14 days straight? Or would you get bored and want to pick up and move shop every 3-4 nights?
