older slingshot fuel??

Postby johnnylaing » Sun Mar 22, 2009 4:08 am

Hello all...Can anyone fill me in on the 2002/2003 fuel?? I came across one(I think) that is not marked...may be prototype. Is there a site with reviews/pics??
I'm pretty good on a bug and wish to practice body drags and relaunching...The size or model is not written on this kite. It came in a one twenty bag marked fuel that may or may not be original. No saftey,no 5'th line...Can I take out in 10-15(not gusty) ??

one twenty? , then it's a 12 m. and it is a 2001 or 2002 kite. check the leading edge. both kites are similar, the main difference is that in the 2001 the LE is made out of mylar (it has a shiny surface and it will eventually delaminate, don't buy it ).

and in the 2002 the LE is made out of dacron, like most 2009 kites.

these are grunty kites, with almost no depower and slow turning. ok for that windrange. but as you said NO SAFETY!
unless you have another chicken loop with a safety mechanism or a shackle lying around, i suggest NOT to buy it. a reasonable price for it would be around 100 usd. and for 150 or 200 you can get a 2004+ kite that is way more user friendly and has a quick release.
belive me, you probably think you always have total control, but shit happens! and suddenly!

good winds

well first of all if your beggining you dont want to buy a C kite(SS fuel) you would want something that has some saftey(depower) and which is user freindly.
so i say get an instructor and ask him or her what kite would be best for you

make that kite into a tent or a bag or something don't waste your time getting your ass kicked by it

especially when there is an excellent used market. i wouldn't get anything older than 2007.
spend the cash now and get a good kit, you'll appreciate it later.

i heard they make fun light wind sk8 kites tho :jump:

Any pre-2004 kite will actively try to kill you.
Any pre-2006 kite will not actively try to kill you but will allow you to try to kill yourself.
2006 bow kites are a good start but can still misbehave quite badly at times.
Anything post-2006 is pretty good.

i learnt on it 120 2002, wind range was 10-18knts 74kg 140tt. Pulls like a truck and little to No depower. But you lean to edge against it to control the power. I wouldn't bother thou get a hybrid and you be having fun and riding confidently in a week

IMO all C kites will allow you to kill yourself, that´s where their fun-factor comes from!
and completely agree, a 2007 or newer bow is the way to go.

I've been really happy with the '05 Slingshot fuels. Normally can find them for about $200 for kite and bar.
