SB IDS is a nice kite. Should be great if they have put those characteristics in a delta
What is it exactly for characteristics that delta shape gives goand and bad ..... e.g. compared to a SB?

This season we take durability head-on with the addition of transitional strut panel materials and reinforced LE closing seams. We have reinforced the high load areas of the Cabrinha Nomad with a transitionally weighted material. This well-placed material acts as a buffer zone between the rigid strut areas and the canopy. The entire canopy of all kites are flat seamed and taped prior to sewing. This is 20% stronger than the free hand sewn method of a top stitch.

The leading edge of the Cabrinha Nomad closing seams now impliments a hot melt glue tape in the leading edge closing seam for added strength. The entire trailing edge implements a two-ply of tough 70 gsm material for added durability and strength.

hi Dave

i'm just curious, is nomad made just for high winds?
cause almost all of listed improvements increase weight of the kite.

and how does leading edge closure supposed to be repaired if needed later if it hot melt glued?
how am i suppose to undo the seams if i need to repair the LE rupture?

i think hot melt glue makes this seam too inflexible and eventually leads to tears of dacron alongside it.

can't answer your repair questions, but I've ridden the NoMad...if weight was added, can't feel it while it is flying....VERRRRY SMOOOOOOTH in the air, ROCK solid in the air, smooth throughout the entire turn.

Hi erre -

I don't know about the high wind question. My guess would be that since Cab designs on Maui and is headquartered there, that they have a lot of high wind time to test kite designs.

The hot melt should be ok since they started using it with the IDS kites a year ago. When IDS came out Pete Cabrinha did an online interview and I think he described it as a heat tape that provides additional support to the seam. They used to use the same thing installing carpeting and making joints between two sections of carpet.

Cab is supposed to reveal details of the new 09/10 kites on 7/1/09.

The Nomad is non-bow hybrid IDS kite that combines the best of both worlds…a moderate C shaped arc and an IDS bridle to deliver our fastest turning kite yet.
