Unhooked jump?? please help

Postby mogthedog » Thu Sep 24, 2009 10:00 am

Hi, I am just starting unhooking to try and do jumps, I can do an unhooked raley (where I don't move the kite), but when I unhook and send the kite up to do a jump, the kite won't go directly above me and I just end up not getting any pop and landing way downwind under the kite.
Any ideas.. please

make sure your kite is trimmed so it won't back stall, ride with a lot of speed, unhook, send the kite from 10 to 12 much much harder than you would for a hooked jump.
It's much easier with a small kite and if you use a wave/piece of chop to get some extra kick into the air

Ok, thanks for the reply, If I trim the kite anymore (pull the depower strap) i seem to lose all power?
I don't think I have been sending the kite hard enough and possibly not had the kite high enough before I start. thanks for the advice, I'll give it a go next time we get some wind here in Wales..

unhook when you're sending the kite, hold the edge - don't go downwind when unhooking..

don´t send the kite. Keep it at 45º and work on how to pop. If you want to do sent jumps keep hooked in

God man! Send the kite... are you kidding? To air unhooked is to NOT SEND THE KITE.

Keep it at 45 degrees. Load it up by heading down wind a bit to get speed and get the kite a bit deeper into the powerzone. Then edge back toward the normal direction of travel. Your kite is gonna fire forward in the window when you edge against it and your gonna have a nice pop up at 45 degrees. Keep your sh!t together cause if its a decent air, your gonna land going pretty much straight downwind without much if any real float from the kite.

Of course all of us cheat a bit and end up sending the kite a touch, but never like a sent jump where the kite is your parrashute.

Sending the kite is not the answer to pop!

Thanks for all the replies. I would like to do both powered moves and big jumps under the kite (unhooked),. I don't have a problem with pop as I can quite comfortably do an unhooked raley which will hopefully progress to landing blind/surface pass.

for big jumpsI think it is all to do with the timming of the unhooking, the speed of the board, the pop and the sending of the kite all at the same time.
