Packing items into Pump for travel?

Has anyone tried to stuff your pump with other travel items, in order to save space in your gear bag, while flying to kitesurf locations? Most pumps have a screw-off top, that can be removed easily.

The pump could be thought of as a protective case for small delicate items like cameras, electronic gadgets, etc.

If you have done this, what items did you pack into the pump. Any problems with the grease on the pump shaft? Put stuff in baggies, first? Any problems with TSA, etc?

I don't know what kinda pump you have, but if its anything with a metal shaft its not a good idea to put anything inside. Reason being a pump that is used for any length of time has a nasty residue that is either from the assembly lube or what have you. I guess if you cleaned the crap out of it before dissassembly you might get away with it.

Good idea on space there is a lot of wasted space there. You may get looked after on a international flight for smuggling as your ingenous plot to put stuff in a confined space may point the finger at you what else you got hiding in a small place :D

Haha was just thinking that, I´m sure a customs official would be less than impressed, even if its just your camera knocking around!

the less reason you give them to go rummaging through your gear the better. it can also make a big difference in how the porters handle you and your gear physically and financially.

you can use cylinder's empty space for some stuff, but don't close it. just put the piston of the pump separately. otherwise it would be mistaken for trying to hide something illegal.
how does cavity search in the airport sounds like?

I'll take a pass on the tough love glove.

Try to find a better way to pack your gear or just buy/borrow a pump when you arrive.

No point. When traveling by plane, weight is the issue, not space. If you are going to a popular kite spot, you can just borrow a pump anyway.
