Useful info thanks!

With a hydrofoil and 14m kite I can go comfortably as soon as the kite can move back up from 3 o-clock position. A lighter kite could lower that threshold a bit and then I might just need one or two extra square meters of area to go.

My kites:
Blade vertigo 2011:
14m = 3.6kg
10m = 3kg

The fat lady would probably be one of the lightest inflatables, but it seems the 2012 SS turbine might be better! 3.7kg for a 17m inflatable. That is good.

thanks for the data for vertigo, blade and dyno. i assumed 17sqm is right for the vertigo ?

i updated the list on the first page with those new entries:

Code: Select all

A - area is in square meters [qm]
pA - pojected area [qm]
pA/A - efficiency of area use
m - mass is in [kg]
m/pA - mass per projected qm
UR - User Rating of lightwind performance from 0..100%
+----------------------------+------+-------+------+------+-------+----+
| Kite | A | pA | pA/A | mass | m/pA | UR |
+----------------------------+------+-------+------+------+-------+----+
| Airush Lithium Zero 2013 | 18.0 | 14.4* | 0.8* | 3.4 | 0.236 | |
+----------------------------+------+-------+------+------+-------+----+
| Slingshot Turbine 2012 | 17.0 | 13.6* | 0.8* | 3.7 | 0.272 | |
+----------------------------+------+-------+------+------+-------+----+
| Epic Infinity V2 2012 | 17.0 | 13.6* | 0.8* | 4.2 | 0.310 | |
+----------------------------+------+-------+------+------+-------+----+
| Blade Vertigo 2011 | 14.0 | 11.2* | 0.8* | 3.6 | 0.321 | |
+----------------------------+------+-------+------+------+-------+----+
| North Dyno 2012 | 17.0 | 13.6* | 0.8* | 4.4 | 0.324 | |
the amazing thing with the airush lithium zero is, that it is the first tubekite that really gets close to a flysurfer deluxe in terms of mass per projected area. fantastic ! where will the maui cloud show up in the list ? i just need the weight :P

Maui Cloud - lighter (per sqm) than the speed3 deluxe 19:

Code: Select all

+----------------------------+------+-------+------+------+-------+----+
| Boardriding Maui Cloud 2013| 17.0 | 13.6* | 0.8* | 3.1 | 0.228 | |

Not sure how you got your measurements of projected area

Inf V2 is not Flat area 17m2 and not projected 13.6m2

Dyno 18 m2 2011 projected area was 11.9m2 :thumb:
Newest Dyno 17m2 projected area is 11.2m2 :thumb:

The cloud is not the lightest per projected area according to all those 3 foils by Flysurfer

SP3 15 projected 12.8m2 at 2.8kg = 0.218
SP3 19 projected 16.2m2 at 3.5kg = 0.216
SP3 21 projected 17.9m2 at 3.9kg = 0.217

You need to get your figures straightened out about projected areas

There is no way that Turbine and V2 has same projected area

So i doubt very much that the cloud is the same a Dyno 18 2011 in projected area

thanks for the data, i will update the list tomorrow. regarding projected area, i know that the factor 0.8 is a bit too optimistic for SLE tubes. but because proj. area data is seldom available, did choose 0.8 as a first guess ...

any corrections are strongly welcome ! thanks alot for all the data collected so far.

Herculon i really like your attitude about all this
If there is one thing i have learned is that North and Flysurfer are both technical and precise with data

When it comes to "tube kites" you can pretty much base everything from the 2011 18 Dyno...
...it you want to talk about "projected area"...it has the most...and beats them all...
...and we know for a fact it is a 18m2 and not a mystery sized kite :thumb:

It has a long stiff large leading edge supported by 7 struts that results in projecting the largest area

Surely not the lightest weight for a kite....but a sure thing for LW parked power...with 11.9m2 proj.

Dyno 18m2 has factor ...........18 X 0.6615 = 11.9m2

That is why the newest Dyno17m2..........17 x 0.6590 = 11.2m2

I doubt any other tube kite out there has an higher ratio than those two North kites
It could be the same at best  ...but a ratio of 0.80 is just too high for tube projected estimates

Thanks Hansen...i just checked the largest size kite on that chart of yours
Nitro V2 16m2....has projected area of 9.90m2

16 X 0.619 = 9.90m2

Still does not beat the Dyno's higher number for maximum projected area compared to flat size

It is however pretty close :thumb:

I think i found the highest factor vs flat area with the North LTD Dyno 13m2 :winner2:

It has projected area of 9.3m2

Pretty impressive achievement for a tube kite :thumb:

13m2 x factor 0.716 = 9.3m2

So yes 0.80 is way too optimistic for SLE tubes
