Yup - going upwind really fast, or cruising - you really have a fully relaxed ride !

But when totally pushing to the limit, downwind or halfwind - in chop - it can be really tough :naughty:

Although - it is tough on ANY board, true.

people are bent over in the stance as this is the way to sail the board upwind especially with the new 22cm fins which have hardly any cant, meaning the board is sailed flat.
You need to be bent over the let the bar out to get the kite further round in the window to allow you an extra couple of degrees to windward.

Thats my advice.
Cheers

This is why kiteracing doesn't feel natural: it demands too much on the legs.

Is it legal to put some additional supports for the body/bar?

Something like a mini mast triangulized with the legs to help stabilize the board that would support a passage to the depower rope?

A KiteRacePoleBoard :-)

This would hold 1m wide boards and 70cm fins :jump:

Or: a discardable foil, used only in the first upwind leg and dumped for the rest of the race. :cool2:

Hi,

Rode my new NRL 2010 last night...
8-15 knts ,, yeehaaa,, I go upwind like crazy..
Bottom end not really any better than my mate on his large flat light wind TT.
we can barely keep the kites (13m Crossbows) flying at times..
But he is just staying upwind and I am hooting 30degrees higher.
Yep awkward stance,,, nose flying around..
Not dissimilar to when we went to big finned , rear foot strapped windsurfers..
You can walk around on this board :) - I reckon I could hang 5 ;)
I feel a huge freedom being able to go where I want..
not so fun coming down wind , but I believe it will improve with technique..
Overall I am very happy so far... and look forward to the ride / technique becoming more natural, which I am sure it will with practice.

Cheers
Paul

These boards are designed to go upwind. So I am not surprised if you can go 30degrees higher than on a TT boards. But going upwind on fully relaxed stance on one of these boards cannot even compare to doing same on a CS or Formula. You simply do not have the leverage from sail & boom to move forward with a natural and relaxed stance.

You do not need to ride these kiteracing boards to realize that it is not same fun when going upwind as on a windsurfing. I bet also that you will get really tired after a while. For now, I will simply keep using my TT and wave board.

Hey Ogm ,

what you say is possibly true, however, I did not work any harder to go 30dgs higher on the NRL than I used to, to go 30dgs lower on the TT.

Cheers...

My TT goes upwind better than anything and the North RaceLTD both 2009 and 2010 leave my TT for dead.

The 2010 model is more comfortable and overall more pleasant to ride. Both boards are excellent and very comfortable in smooth water with the 2010 model feeling like I was walking around on the deck of a yacht. Very grin inducing. :)

Both boards get a bit uncomfortable in chop and they both feel quite slow in terms of maximum speed.

We tried loading up the fins sailboard style and it works to a point but the fin stalls can be quite sudden resulting in a big splash. I haven't dropped a kite in light wind in years but decked it last night.

The big board presented a few problems in kite relaunching. With the board on its edge it blocked the view of the downed kite and the razor sharp fins next to my kite lines made me very nervous.

I think it will take several hours of riding to get the most out of the race board but the result so far are promising.

I totally disagree my friend. When you will ride a new generation raceboard - you will understand

Just returned from my 2nd go on the NRL..
upwind is actually easy and cruisy, it delivers on the promise.
(not racing).. just remember to keep the kite high to reduce the pressure.

Anyway, off the wind is not so cruisy.
Just like an over fin'd windsurfer,, Well it is an over fin'd kiteboard I guess

Anyone care to offer some technique tip for off the wind and how to control this beast...
I guess I will comes to terms with it but your input will be appreciated,,

Cheers
Paul

Hi,

Somebody asked before in this thread and I also would like to know: What's the size of the front and the rear fins?

Thanks,
