Epic is at our Local expo. I was interested to see what everyone is talking about. So I checked out the kites and most importantly talked to Dimitri. My top two things when I consider buying a product in the kiting industry is the quality and the company backing the products. Performance is a bonus. Kiting is such a new sport and it really needs strong quality company's. Even though Epic is just a baby in the industry, from what I can tell Epic is starting out strong. We haven't had enough wind to ride but I did spend some time examining the construction and flying the Renegade on the beach.

Construction. The easiest way for me to look at the company's quality, is to look at the small details. I actually went down the line of 20 kite vendors to show the difference in build quality of each company to my friend. It was clear that there are a few brand's that are doing some engineering and innovation. Epic is one of them. I like the small details put into Epic's one pump system, bridal connection points, bumpers, and finishing on the struts.

Performance.
I can't say much on performance because the wind was maybe 10mph. Super light. I just flew it on the beach for 20 mins. The only honest thing I can say about the Renegade is that within 30 seconds I was comfortable with it. I do not have a lot of experience with many kites. It was predictable and stable. I had some fun with it in the light wind doing kite loops and such. It felt rightly responsive to the bar input from what I could tell. I am used to a HUGE depower throw (LF kites). The shorter depower throw on the renegade was really nice. I actually really really liked that aspect. Feel free to post up any questions for me. Hopefully more wind tomorrow so I can get them out on the water!

Pics of me on the Renegade are soon to come; but here are some pics I snapped.

Pismo kitexpo day two had Dimitri jumping the pier, and the rest of us shreding some double overhead waves with side shore winds..... Oh wait... I'm pretty sure I was dreaming that

really, we had fog and single digit winds, 1-2ft waves, but still lots of fun! Plenty o time to check out the kites and gear on the beach and shoot the breeze with everyone.
The epic kites got lots of attention and lots of questions.

I've demanded that Dimitri and Helen take on a new team rider named Wally that you can see in dimitri's first picture. He's hairy but he gets a lot of attention from the film crews and he fits in a womans size small tshirt to keep costs down. He's currently working with the junior pro kite and spending time learning to rig without opposable thumbs. Sorry ladies, he has been neutered.

On my way to Waddell from the PISMO event, we decided to stop in Big Sur for something special. :D
Was very lucky to find this spot. Very very very dangerous. Almost did not make it back because of the gusty conditions (10 to 35 knots) and lots of current. I was on the RENEGADE 6.
My kite fell in the water and for a second I almost let the kite go because I was going to get crushed on the Rocks, but as soon as I thought about letting the bar go the kite came up. That was a close call.
I was getting married 2 hours after this session.
Tomorrow I will be in Waddell as a married man :jump:

Congratulations Dimitri on both getting back alive and on your nuptials!

I've had some gnarly surf sessions at that beach. Thought about kiting it but there wasn't much room for error. I'd still love to kite somewhere in big sur one day. Been thinking about Molera for a long time and last time I was there it looked sick to kite, but alas... I had no gear!!!

I also had a chance to stop by the Pismo Kite Expo and take a look at Epic.

Unfortunately the wind did not cooperate so did not get a chance to try them on the water but the kites look very well built with some nice features. The new Epic bar also look great and you could not ask for more enthusiasm from a manufacturer than from Dimitri!

Here is an interesting video on how the Epic kites are made...

Had a great time at Waddell today. Arrived at the beach at around 3 pm but no much wind. Then the wind picked up at around 4:30pm. Looked like (14-16 knots) so I decided to rig my SCREAMER 12 to test it in the waves. I soon as I got into the water the wind pick up to 18 knots. I wish I would of rigged my RENEGADE 9. But had a great time. I would like to thank all the local crew from Waddell for their hospitality. :thumb:

Had a great demo day at Crissy Field in San Fran USA.
The wind was very gusty but still had a great session and lots of people testing the kites.
I wish I had more kites with me because all of them were out.

Second day at Crissy Field, San Fransisco. Not as windy as yesterday but few people had the chance to test the kites and were very impressed with the performance and the construction.
