Pictures are worth a 1000 or so the saying goes. This happened today in about 20 knots in pretty choppy surf. I am a beginner and got a leash so I would spend less time retrieving my board and more time on it. I was wearing a helmet and the leash was a long real leash made for kiting not a surfers board leash. Lets face it I'm lucky that all I got was 13 stitches and a trip to the ER. This had the potential to be life changing or ending. Attachment:

Glad you made it. Glad you wore a helmet. Glad it wasn't one inch higher.
Thanks for posting. Keeps us in touch with the reality of things. 13 stiches... That's plenty.

Ouch brah, glad you made out on that one. What happened? Stacked it, tumbled by the surf, leash became slingshot and board death weapon?

Wave caught the board as I was trying to build up speed after a water start. As I came up out of the water to regain my footing that is when the board caught up with. I have come to realize what everyone was saying about how dangerous they where. I wish that I could have heard about a story like mine to have understand just how bad it could be to me but a slingshot kiteboard catapulting past you could end up hurting someone else as well. I'm not going to say anyone should or should not use them that is their choice to make. Just think it is good to share what can actually happen. I can replace a lost or damaged board I can't replace my head.

Did the leash launch the board at your head or did the wave toss it at your head? I have had a similar incident in waves where my board was thrown into my head because of the wave. I wasn't wearing a hemlet at the time and got a decent cut, but covered by my hair. Yours looks like it hurt a lot more.. /Marc

These leashes are okey provided you use 2 sacrificial hair ties to connect the board to the leash . These will break under pressure saving any injuries

Hey dude, glad to see that you made it out alright, and twice as glad to hear you've been cured. Can we put your testimonial up on our website www.kiteboardleash.com , to warn other people to not use the board leash?
