Everyone knows about the news about the fatal shark attack yesterday and obviously our sport has it's inherent risks when it comes to contact with wildlife. It got me thinking and wondering if there is anything out on the market that we can wear to deter sharks from coming too close?
I remember seeing devices experimented on discovery channel years ago that emitted pulses or something to deter sharks from coming to close. Does anything like that exist on the commercial market? It would have to be small, impact resistant, and super light.
I know the chances of attack are really small but the added peace of mind would really be nice (like having a transceiver for avalanches, or 4 wheel drive and snow tires for icy conditions).
Just got me thinking. It's always in the back of my mind when I'm body dragging back to my board as I'm sure it is for others.

The best prevention is to stay on shore but it was the first attack in 120yrs at that beach so that was insanely bad luck and timing. He had a way better chance of getting hit by a car on the way to the beach than being mauled by a school of sharks.
The life guard who got him to shore is incredibly brave. He paddled 500yds out to get to him, fended off all the sharks, put him on his paddle board and then paddled all the way back with only one arm through 3-4' waves. Blood all over the place, sharks must have been chasing them in the whole time.
