I just heard through a contact on FB that the local government in Fuerteventura is trying to approve a Plan which would ban all the watersports (including kite) in the north of the island (from El Cotillo to the dunas.

Something is explained here:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=3 ... 282&ref=ts

is it true? What can we do to avoid this ban?

Please, some local from the island can help us? I think everybody in the world would sign if it would help to save our sport on that part of the island.

Thanks

An island reliant on tourism banning watersports? The mind boggles. Like an episode of Monty python. Let's stop this madness. I was just planning a trip there.

Sorry guys, but this is not true. The Goverment of the Island is working to regulate all the activity around the north shore but it is not going to ban any watersport becouse it is a very important claim for the tourism.

Hi RedShark,

thank you so much: this is a very good news for me.

However, I can't read spanish (from your link), so I just trust your words. I know that most of the economy on the island is due to tourism.... and probably half of the tourism is related to watersports: that's why that news was really strange to me. I couldn't believe it. And fortunately nothing happened and we will continue to ride on your wonderful waves :)

ok i can explain where this comes from. the cabildo want to make the whole west (cotillo heading south) and north coast (cotillo to majanicho) a national park (not the same as a natural park) this will stop them from being able to build there but also limits the activities alowed in the area, including watersports, fishing and snokeling etc.
but as far as i know the surf beaches at cotillo will remain as they are now. the lagoons will be (un-arguably) out of bounds so will the north shore along to Majanicho but east coast, FLAG BEACH, glass beach and drop beach will not change.
none of this is definate yet it was just discussed at an island meeting about a month back

Ben

Nooo... really Alex... I was really scared about that news. Fuerte is a paradise for us, and that kind of news was really bad for us. Now that I know that everything is different... I'm relaxed, and I'll continue booking my trips to that special Island :)

Thanks to everybody...

P.s. of cours on April 1st I'll be here again for a special announcement :naughty:

Well, I got fooled too!
Does Jankie know Jankie?

Fuerte or Bali, what's the best? Both good during European summer. Both are home to Jankies.
