if you are in south florida you should have no problem demo'ing all sorts of kites before you buy.
make sure to experiment with the chicken loop release before you buy a GK. release it and try and put it back together in the deep water. just my 2 cents.

GK Trix are outstanding- The 12 feels like a C-kite as far as responsiveness to rider input and it has complete depower. The constuction is far more durable than any other kite out there and it's got this nice little compact bridle system that is completely adjustable so you can vary the bar pressure depending on your style- the kite is very easy to relaunch and they have very unique graphics- I can't say enough good things about these kites- they have made it really easy to improve jumping, waveriding, etc. Five stars
p.s. The Spirit has a great shape for ocean chop and is bombproof with the wood core. I demo'd one and it's got a super smooth ride cheers

The CL release is one of the easiest to reattach under load, out in the water... but yes... you should practice it on land first. GK has a video on thier site. A very good system that is easy to activate when things get wild.

I have ridden the 2010 Sonics and they are amazing. A big step forward for this brand. If you like going big this kite will surprise you. Great construction and high quality throughout. Still waiting to try the new Trix.

I have had the Trix's 07's, 08's and 09's from 7m to 15m, bomber construction, they have dacron running down the back of the struts, so this provides good crash support and resistance to wear. I am 180, the 15m was my light wind kite, I like it because I can kite when all others can't. and it turns good for such a large kite, I can loop it. I like they way they jump. I set them on fast settings. Play around with them. I didn't have a 7m, until last year, but once I started flying it, I wanted to fly it a lot. Surprising power for such a small kite. The new 09 bar is much better, you just need to know how to use the release, once you do it a few times, it seems simple. Also adjust the bar throw range to your arm reach, very simple with new design. I use mine on both lakes, rivers and ocean waves . Only tried the 2010's once and was underpowered so can't say much, but they have been better each year. To relaunch, just let go of the bar and be patient, don't pull in to soon.
Good Luck! Steve

About Spirit that is a good choice. You feel with a smaller board on your foot.
With choppy it is smooth.

Full speed receptions jumps are very safe.

It is a good choice for a board to use in any conditions.
