Best harness to stop lower back pain

Postby Chillbay » Sat Jan 22, 2011 12:26 pm

Hi, I have Nitrous shorts, they are a little small now so am in the market for a new harness. My problem is I am now suffering from lower back problems, so not sure if the nitrous shorts are the cause, so perhaps a waist harness might be the answer. Does anyone have an opinion on this, many thanks in advance.

Have been used some different harnesses ( seat and waist ) because I was suffering my lower back problem .. I found Nitrous shorts that helps my lower back reducing alot of pains !! I stay with it for over seven years ! :D

I wear Nitrous shorts as well, which obviously classify as a seat harness.
Seat harnesses are more gentle on your back/ribs than waist harnesses.
If you are having back problems with Nitrous shorts, maybe work on your stomach muscles.
Back pain usually has more to do with a weak stomach area than it does the back.

the shorts harnesses don't support your back at all.
try a seat harness and also a waist harness...go to a shop and hang onto them with full weight and see if anything hurts and go from there.

Oldnbroken - I used to have a six pack now I have a barrel so you could be right

RDM - thanks for the examples, I'm going to grow some hair and get on the floor! But seriously I do need to get fit so will start once I'm up to it.

Toby - what do you know, just carry on with that old school ballet  I will take your advice and get myself down to the shop and try some some out.

Thanks guys, common sense advice as always :thumb:

I have scoliosis in my lower back and I´ve used different harnesses until i found the 2009 KL Pro harness from Naish, it makes the difference for me I havent bought any new kite since because I have 0 pain while kiting with it. I would never use a short harness.
Good luck in finding the right one for you!

There is a difference between Nitrous Shorts and a seat harness?....I was un-aware that was the case. I have never had back pain issues so I count myself lucky. I guess it really helps to be totally average height and weight. :)

I also have backproblems and have been using the Dakine Fusion for about 10 years. I just got a Naish seat pro yesterday. Only rode it for a little bit, but it felt pretty good. Also tried a waist harness yesterday. No good! :(

I think the shorts are the ones just like a short with a hook on it..like the Dakine one.
correct me if wrong!
the shorts from dakine puts no pressure over the back and butt, a seat harness protects your back from "hollow cross" (?) which causes lots of pain in my case.
And specially riding old school always fully powered, my back has to take a lot of pressure, but with a seat the pressure goes down to the butt, and above my lower spinals.
