I am very sorry to say that my predictions were right.
It is very sad to hear of the plane crash in Sinai.
Please be cautious

What predictions?
You can predict plane crashes in advance?

Some flight paths are being changed, some not. AFAIK they haven't any reason to think why the plane went down other than mechanical failure.

I went kiting in Sharm last December, and security wasn't a big issue for me before I went and was even less after I'd been there for the first time.

This is the current UK assessment.

Of course we have to keep up to date as things can change.

Egypt has the potential to be a hugely successful tourist country, but lots of things have to change before they could hope to prosper in a major way from tourism. But in the enclosed tourist area I was in they look after you very well.

As far as news go here in europe, the Airbus was pretty old 18 years, had a tail strike 14 years ago.

The flight altitude was 9000 meter. From the news, this altitude is to high for a man pad.

The black boxes have been found and once we learn what is on tape we know more. It might be a good idea to keep your rumours and predictions for yourself till then. Your behaviour is not helpful for none of us.

Konstantin - if saving peoples lives is not helpfull then what is ?
One must make his own decisions, for me it more important than the actual reason the plane crashed the fact that ISIL responded and acted as if they are responsible, This means that they are trying and will try to crash a plane.

Planes can be shot down and planes can be brought down. just recruit a ground crew member and there you go.

Also, Take in consideration that there have been several attacks of ISIL in the past year in Sinai, and that the Egyptian army and police are taking hits.

I really do hope that the western world will wakeup and deal with the problem.
I used to travel to Sinai a lot.

Anybody been kiting in Egypt in the last two months who could give some insight of what the general feeling is like? What do the locals say about ISIL/ISIS and the feeling of security, especially if one is a little secluded such as in Ras Sudr for example?

Egypt for me has been an absolutely perfect spot for kiting but the whole head chopping thing isn't my thing and somehow I don't want to be that dude on that one day that ended up being part of their plans to be in the media again.

I just have been in Ras Sudr and El Gouna (Hurghada) recently.

Absolutely nothing to worry about.

Unfortunately many people think it is dangerous. But it is save.
Brazil is way more dangerous!

The nice part of everyone thinking like this is, that spots are pretty empty, specially Ras Sudr, and prices are low.
For me Ras Sudr is the best spot in Egypt with perfect flat water.

El Gouna was pretty packed with kiters, and no one worried.

I personally would not go to Luxor or North Sinai. The rest is safe as can be.

I would rate Turkey more dangerous than Egypt.

I spent 3 months in Ras Sudr no problems, I came home because of the ISIS threat. Brazil was definitely WAYYY more dangerous!!! Now there was ONE guy who got killed in Egypt recently who was targeted by ISIS, this was west of Cairo and at least a 4 hour drive from Ras Sudr. (this is the only European killed by IS in Egypt)

Why did I leave?

-My parents were panicking daily while I was there
-I'd rather be stabbed by a Brazilian than tortured by IS
-Brazil was more controllable, it's unlikely you will get in trouble if you're careful. Whereas Egypt the threat was 100% random and you don't know if there's an IS threat until it's too late

Regarding the plane, I don't think they have the right equipment to take down a plane in central Sinai. Also I'd vote for the bedouins vs IS

I also think the beduins control the Sinai and won't let IS in...maybe the north of Sinai is out of their control, definitely they control the Ras Sudr area...and they live from it, so they won't cut their hand that feeds them...

I haven't been since 2004 but I will say even back then I felt safer in Sinai than anywhere else in Egypt.

news today on Swedish radio news, 20:00 local time, was that the airline is saying plane did not go down from any plane failure- plane was checked out Ok and no incidents/repairs in recent months. Said it could only have gone down from external factors.

Sad to think about all those innocent people dieing, and the unfortunate & hardworking egyptians that will lose work due to this.
