Colona gets deep immediately in front of the station, so no problem.

Most spots are deep enough to foil as long as you wade out first, I've just come back from hurghada and it's great to see so many kiters out having a great time I'm biased but for me it's one of the best spots to kite in the world, and currently with the fantastic exchange rate it is sooooo cheap, ie elgouna is considered quite expensive but for a family of four to eat in a nice restraunt 3course meal with drinks less than £20 for all of us, taxi to Elgouna from hurghada £3, fantastic egyption hospitality, sun and wind all year round, and in the event you get a no wind day you have a world class cable park to play in I'm back in July with the wife an kids for a month and I can't wait

Thanks I have been to colona twice and found it deep right away but then went shallow again but i guess in just need to stay downwind a bit, it's and awesome spot and we stay at the hotel just downwind from the kite center ( mercure) and walk up to the kite center to launch but now i'm foiling I can just ride out of the mercure which is a way nicer hotel than the magawish .

Yes, the sandbar in front of Colona is shallow, but just a bit downwind it's deep all over.
Magawish isn't great, true.
Egypt is one of the main kite destinations for Europeans.
Good winds, beautiful water and cheap.

Dear Kiteforum users
(Please, forget for a moment all the bad problems in which Egypt is now involved)
Said that, how would you compare a kitesurf holidays in EL GOUNA vs a kitesurf holidays in SOMA BAY (ABU SOMA) ?
I found 2 good offers for holidays there but I am not able to decide: both spots seems super good, is this true? big winds, huge spaces, etc.
I would departure this week.
I am just wondering if the wind is good this time of the year? and also (very important!) what about the TIDES there? years ago in Egypt down to Safaga I remember many days we were never been able to kite because there were no water at all in the bay
Any true advice is really helpful before I confirm the hotel
thank you!!!

Hi
Both El Gouna and Soma Bay are the safest areas in Egypt I would say.
SB at 7 Bft always has water.
El Gouna is also rude depending, but you can aksways walk a bit and have deeper water. Same like SB at Peter Mueller kite center.
El Gouna has more crowded spots, but therefore more nightlife and some more things to do, specially if you travel with kids.
SB has a bit better winds. But more gusty at 7 Bft, better at PM.
E.G. Winds are smooth.
SB at breakers hotel and the ines close to it have a shuttle service which can be annoying if you keep missing it
Which are your offers? I might can comment on the hotels too.

For strapless freestyle yes, for wave no.

Toby you are great as always with your tons of experiences!!! thank you
Actually I don't care too much of safe or unsafe destination of Egypt because I am pretty much fatalist... you know what I mean, so any place could be good let's say... from the POW of security.
However, I got a proposal from Tornado surf spot beach Abu Soma. What I am worried about is just that I don't understand if I can do kitesurf easily in front of the hotel beach? because I am not interested in taking everyday a boat or other awkward situations...
as I am on holidays.. I would love to have my breakfast and then in 1 minute jump in the water
Otherwise I have a good proposal from Ibi & Friends spot Seahorse bay (between Hurghada and El Gouna) I think the place is called Al Ahia but I am not sure.
A last thing
I am definitely not interested in nightlife.
Once I can do a good kitesurfing in front of my hotel with steady wind and preferably side-shore I am enough happy to go to sleep with a big smile in my face
What do you think?
