f-one bamboo surf sl 6'2" reviews?

Hi,

has anybody experience with this board, the f-one surf sl 6'2''?

Is it fast? does it go upwind well? does it plane early?

I tried the 2010 f-one surf 6.0, but I did not like it at all, it feels like it is breaking not gaining any speed, it needs a lot of wind.
Is the surf sl 6'2'' similar or quite different?

I also tried the 2010 f-one signature 5'10'', I like it a lot, but I want it a board which planes much earlier.

Alternatively, I was also considering the slingshot tyrant 6'2".

thanks for any info,

Eloico.

I have the 2010 F-one signature 5'10 also and love it. I know the 2011 boards are double concave on the bottom so they will plain easier this year and feel better in the water all around. Its about time a company put what has been on regular surfboards for 30 years. Concave makes a big difference. Plus it is a squash tail and not pin tail like the 6'0 or the others. The 6'2' will plain earlier and easier, it was designed more for the true surf feeling and lightwind.
It is the next surfboard I'm buying for myself. Rode it once and had alot of fun. love the double concave! I expect alot of other kite companys to start doing it as well next year. Bought damn time!!!

kochease,

do you say that you rode the 2011 6'2'' once?

Is it fast and planes early?

In F-one page, they say that they have not changed the 6'2'' shape from 2010 to 2011. They do not say whether is simple or double concave, but they say that the 6'4'' is simple concave.

the 2010 6'0'' was also squash tail, but that did not help much to that board.

thanks for the info,

Eloico.

Last year I rode both the 6-2 surf and the 5-2 Fish. If you want to plane early and go upwind then you should look at a board like the Fish. It has a really flat rocker and a wide tail. I weight 200 lbs and would be looking at a 2011 5-4 Fish. The 6-2 surf is a true surf board with quite a bit of rocker. Fun on waves and good in bumpy conditions but not really built for early planing and screaming upwind. Hope this helps!

I own the 2011 Fish 5'4" and 2011 Signature 5'10" and they are both great boards. I have ridden the 6'2" and found it to be a good lighter wind board, good for strapless, and good in riding bigger waves with less kite power (more surfing the wave). It goes upwind well also. It is really not meant to be ridden fast. If you want a more powered up riding board that is very fast, lively, and snappy, the Signature 5'10" is very good at this. It works well in small to large waves and is a good all around board. It is my favorite one to ride. The 5'4" Fish is very good in smaller surf or mushy surf and due to its flatter rocker and wider outline, gets going early and good in light wind or a lot of wind. It rides very easy strapless or strapped. It is fun for freestyle strapless also.

Hope this helps.

The F-One Bamboo boards are very well built, ride really well, and look great also.

eloico,
sorry my bad. I got to thinking about it and it was the 6'0" board I rode at demo, I ride so many boards it can be hard to keep track of all of them and what ones I rode. Also rode the 2011 5'10" signature but I didnt get enough time on the signature to form any opinions about it other than its not a light wind board. The 6'2" is unchanged from 2010 but the 6'0" has some changes. I would go with J-Gar and BBQ Jims opinions, they seem to have had more time on the boards. I rode the 6'0 in light wind and had fun. My 5'10" signature board I wouldnt call a light wind board, to much rocker.
If you want a light wind surf board go with something wider and flatter rocker like the 5'4" or 5'6" F-one Fish surfboard. Those are alot of fun and I will have a 5'6" Fish in my personal quiver here very soon.

I have been kiting for 4 years. This summer I rode a skimboard strapless once and liked the sensation of liberty it gave me. I want to buy my first surf next summer. I read comments on F-One surf and I think it could be a good choice. I hesitate between 6'2'' and 6'4''. I measure 187 cm and weight 80 kg. What would be your advice?
Thanks

Vincent

I am an F-one dealer (among other brands) and have owned all the bamboo surf 5'8'' and 5'10 they ever made (now riding the new 2012 5'10'')

For your info:

The 2011 f-one 6'2'' does not have the double concave the 2012 does.

The 6'2'' and 6'4'' are designed by f-one as surfboards you can also ride a kite with and not the other way round so yes, expect an excellent light wind wave board but not a rocket ship.

Same for the Tyrant 6'2''. It is a pure wave board with a good rocker line and narrow tail. If it is speed you are looking for and planning performance go for the SS Celeritas or the F-One Fish

Do you surf the 5'10" strapless. I really liked the 5'10" 2012 in a test but I surfed it with straps. Normally I surf strapless.

With or without straps , your choice! Nothing in the shape of a board makes it more suited to riding with or without straps except the size.

The bigger the board in regards to your weight the more you need to move forward and backwards to shift your weight so having a fixed foot position (straps) makes it difficult.

Riding a rather small board without straps has no advantage over straps as weight shifting is minimal but is still ok.

Weather you ride with or without straps has to do with your style and sea state, not the board .
