The only time I rode a foil the straps scared. I will have to try again but strapless. He makes it look so damn easy

haha, well you did better than most people on their first try... :-)

I certainly wouldn't try that thing strapless the first time.

When i first tried foilboarding in 2005 I was wearing snowboard boots and bindings because we did not believe it could be possible otherwise.

Riding strapless is not harder than with straps. The only advantage of straps is they help you keep the board on it's side when waterstarting. Once you are up and going it does not make any difference at all except for jibes which are harder (impossible?) with the straps on as you need to shift your weight and feet in one movement and they get in the way.

This is a trailer of my first steps on a foil called (not particulary clever)
"From zero to hero":

Full version within two weeks.

Really Awesome and great to see this video !

The "strapless" is the only reason I want one, as here is a board where it makes perfect sense, and nice to see you got the hang of it.

I live at a perfect spot for foilriding, next to the sea and deep quite fast, and no rocks :thumb:

BUT, I am afraid that the seaweed, we have in numbers in the summer, will kill the experience :(

For the same reason I use anti-seaweed fins on my freerace board most of the time, in fact from late spring, full summer, and autumn...
Only in the winther and early spring are the waters "clear" for sure (when the water is really cold) - but not much fun riding on light wind foils in the winther

Riding on a "flying carpet" strapless in the summer where I live, is my dream

But the very thought of seaweed has stopped me from going...

:D Peter

Why do call it a funny combination? It is totally the best way to ride! So smooth, and silent and soft on your joints.

The last time I was in Maui there was a local that rode a strapless foil every day.

I never tried one but maybe riding strapless is easier on them then one would think.

Looks like the closest thing to a magic carpet ride as we will ever get!
