I live on the East Coast of the US and I am looking for a good quality Stand Up Paddleboard but i only have $1000 budget. I am looking for something that is great on flats and can use surfing 2 footers. (NO INFLATABLES) everything i have researched is well over a grand (Naish, Cabrinha, Jimmy Lewis, etc) but i have some sites that look legit:

sup atx
isle
jimmy styks
NSP

Is there anywhere else i should be looking? Please let me know for i want to buy one very soon.

Thank you for the help.

Cabrinha SUP retails for $1099 and is way nicer than NSP ATX etc..
Wood deck, Gloss Paint, Nice wood laminated Fin.
Get a 10'6" for surf and flat water. If your going for just touring go 11'6"

I have been using the 10'6" since the spring and I love it.

i bought a big NSP (11'6"*33") over the winter down in FL cuz i'm a bit bigger (215 lbs) and wanted the stability. it is great for cruising, and also a blast in FL waves. retails for $995. many will tell you that wide is bad for waves, but it just isn't so (to a pt...i'm no slasher!). in fact, getting a board w/extra stability translates to less overall fatigue and longer time out on the water in all conditions. if you eventually want a high performance surf SUP, you can always get something like that later. if you're lighter, get something smaller now. but i'm very happy w/NSP especially at that price pt and riding waves over those week-long kiting lulls gave me a new thrill.

I'm 5'8" and 165 lbs. I have been having a blast on the 10'6" X 31" Mike Doyle for about a year and half now. I paid a little over $800 for the board and paddle. I mainly use it in knee high surf and cruising around with the family in flat water.

I have to friends that got the SUP ATX and they are really happy with them so far.

My cousins just got the Body Glove Wve. I tried it in flat water and it worked pretty well. It retails for under $500. The tend to beat stuff up so this is perfect for them.

It is a little random with the answers you get here. You REALLY have to provide more info. Btw,. you might get more info at the: http://standupzone.com/forum/

Weight, skill type of paddling etc.

Someone I am between 180-190 and ride boards between 9'6'' and 7'8'' for waves.
So, there are so many boards for different uses that is doesn't make sense to just ask a random question.

Some of the cheaper boards have a HUGE disadvantage with the rails being super soft..especially toward the tail. Makes the board kind of shitty for surfing IMO.

In anycase, I'd consider checking out the used board section...or saving a little longer.

give the guys a call at Ocean Extreme Sports in Florida: www.oceanextremesports.com
I was just down there last weekend and they have like 40-50 SUP boards from a bunch of different brands. They also have a bunch of demo's with just a few hours on them, that they are selling...should be plenty in that price range...

Very nice board for flats and can ride the waves you describe.
The base model MSRP is $999 I believe.
Base model comes with one fin, if your in the waves a lot you would want to add the thruster side fins which you could pick up inexpensively or you may even have a set.

Retailer with them in stock at $999 here:

Have fun

I bought a cabrinha 11 6 this year from daryl at oceanextremesports. very happy with it. i would definitely go with the 10 6, but i wanted something super stable for my first sup board. we dont have great waves in sc but can still catch some on this bus. i have heard that last years cabrinha sups fell apart, but this years board has taken a beating from me. the deck pad is awesome as well!!! there is a spot for a wind sail mast if one was into that sort of thing and this size only comes with a single fin box as a fyi. i have found this a good complement to getting out when there is no wind for kiting.
