Hello guys,
I just got this email from a customer that bought a SCREAMER 7. And wanted to share it with you. It is not a good review. As you can see I don't get emails like this but still wanted to share it with you.
Quote:
Dimitri,
I am sorry to report that I now unfortunately realize why no one in the Gorge uses Epic kites. I was out kiting on Friday and yesterday. See below for Fridays and yesterdays wind chart. Yesterday I was using my 7M between about 1 pm and 2 pm. Twice, the kite “jelly fished” folded up and fell out of the sky. I simply could not kite and my day was over.
On Friday at Stevenson, the kite folded up, and twisted like a pretzel. I had to self rescue and spent a half hour in the water tying to get back to shore. I have NEVER had a kite do this.
Your kites simply cannot handle gusty wind. Its not just they don’t perform well – they completely fail. My friends could not believe what they were seeing.
The 9M, which I used a few weeks ago, while I didn’t fold up and fall out of the sky, it was completely unstable and it likely would have had I used it longer. I couldn’t understand what was going on with it but now realize that it was at the verge of also folding up. It was jelly fishing too. I did not want to get stuck swimming in 60 degree water, so I cut my session early and left that day wondering. My answers came this weekend.
I took the chance and went with your kites. Now I cannot use them, they do not work in the gorge winds.
Looks like I will be taking a big loss.

THIS IS THE RESPONSE I SENT HIM:
Hello Mr. ________,
I am so sorry about your miss fortune on these windy days, but I never had this happened before on the SCREAMER 7 or any of the EPIC kites. I have tested the SCREAMER 7 in worse conditions then yours (14 to 42 knots) and the kite never folded on me or any of these things you are mentioning to me, but it was not fun because the kite was all over the place and I had to pay close attention to the kite. Plus the jumps were horrible because one time I was getting pulled way up in the air and other times I was dropping like a bomb on the water. But again, I never had a kite folding on me like that or Jelly Fishing. Actually the only time I had a kite do these weird things on me while kiting was when I had a very very small leak on the kite and after 2 to 3 hrs of kiting the kite would get a little soft on me from 12 psi to probably 7 or 8 psi. Then in gusty winds or when I was loading it would "Jelly Fish", but that is the only time.
So probably you did not pump your kite very hard, usually I pump my kites around 11 to 12 psi especially the small ones because you want them rock solid in these kind of conditions and especially because they have a smaller LE and they need to be pumped very hard so they can perform at their best. Or probably you are 280 to 350 lbs and in the lows when you crash or you are deep in the water and the kite powers up through out the window it will fold for a second because of the heavy weight, but that happens to all the kites.
Can you please let me know where you bought the kite from? Was it directly from us or from an Epic dealer. Is it a 2010, 2011 or 3G? What about the bar? Did you get a 3G kite with a 2010 bar? I will need all these info to find out what is going on in case you have been pumping your kites to 11-12 psi instead of 8 or 9 psi.
Any way my suggestion is to pump your kite very hard to around 11 to 12 psi. If you don't have a gage, then make sure when you are done pumping the kite, you don't see any crease on the LE or you can't squeeze the LE at all. It has to be rock solid. Then give it a try again. You won't believe the difference. Usually ktie schools pumps the kites to 7 - 8 psi so when the students crash the kites it won't explode. But they will Jelly Fish. So all kites needs to be pumped really hard to perform as they should. Also do this for your 9 meter and give it a try. Let me know so we can proceed to the next step.

P.S. Also concerning "why no one in the Gorge uses Epic kites" that is not true. We are getting a lot of direct sales from the Gorge. But we have not found the perfect Epic Dealer yet.

So basically you called him a dumb over weight liar....? And once they admit to one of these things their problems will be over...?
Dimtri, you need a social media manager!... And your own forum.

Why would Dimitri (or anybody) need their own forum? ...this forum is great for it's members and for the companies that advertise, participate in discussions and provide information about their product offerings.
A handful of brands have their own forum and they are not that useful for several reasons.
This forum has tons of members and a nice big braintrust, very useful for members and companies alike, lots of opportunity for many to learn, connect and share ideas, make friends, and entertain themselves.
Companies like the Jay Company or Epic Kites (among others) have advanced their product development and offerings through the use of this great tool available to them.
Seems to me that this forum is a win/win for everybody .....except for those members that (for some odd reason) are perturbed by the silliest things and choose to take exception and make a fuss about whatever they don't like.

a. I don't see where he called him a liar- he told him to pump it up.
b. I believe 280/350lbs may have been joke.

B. exactly why the man needs a social media manager cause I didn't get it, and if I were over weight i may have taken offense to it.

It was not a SCREAMER 7 but a RENEGADE 7. I just got another email from the same customer clarifying that it was a RENEGADE 7. So in few words something must be wrong with the kite or with the way he inflated the kite because the RENEGADE 7 are know to be "Gust eaters" compare to the SCREAMER 7. Did you guys had any of this happened to your RENEGADE 7 or 9 because I have not experienced this before. Please let me know!!!

On another note, don't worry about Mr.Laughingman. Obviously he has something against EPIC kites. What ever I do or what ever I post he will always find something to write against EPIC KITES or myself. But that means we are doing a great job, or else he would not waist his time posting things on the EPIC topics.

Mostly because I would think he would want to avoid the embrassement of the post I quoted. I'm sure the believers would be less critical as you have proven again and again.

I'm just trying to help the guy out. If all he did was listen to "the believers/affiliates", you guys would be still stuck with an infinity that yanked you down wind and a chickenloop that was not reliable! :p

Besides, Dimitri basically begged me to come back to the thread... So here I am!

I have nothing against you or your kites Dimitri, consider me the voice of reason amongst pages and pages of affiliates and "believers" testimonials of how great everything "epic" is.
I get your marketing scheme, as most people do, I just happen to think balancing this out is more important then others do. And if you happen to listen to what I suggest, you may actually improve things, a skill which you have shown to possess. With my help, you may be unstoppable.

With all due respect Mr.Laughingman,
I don't have anything to hide and this is the reason why I took the executive decision to post this "negative comment" about the RENEGADE 7. Because we always get positive reviews on any of our Epic product. And just wanted to share this comment with all our fellow kiters to see if any one else had any of these problems happen to their R7 or 9 in gusty conditions, because I never hear about this before except if your LE is not pumped hard enough or if there is a lick on the LE. What is wrong with that!!!!!

P.S. By the way 280/350lbs was a joke. :remybussi:
