I'm a white haired kitesurfer, I might not be an extreme kiter but I am on the water cruising and jumping for the day, not just an hour or two. If you really want to get in on current kite teaching action you better start considering it a family sport. Last August I stopped in Hood River Oregon and found I was one of many "old guys" (and gals) on the water. Wake up and smell the money!
Regarding the accident? I would recommend no more than 2 in a class. Though I know there are places with as many as 8:1 student teacher ratio, there is no way an instructor can effectively and safely handle 4 or more students.
Reading the instructors statement ,he says could not open QR because bar was pushing against it,this is a design flaw in QR, every qr should work in this situation,eg north, ozone, etc, the chances of this are slim, but try telling that to his family, and a line cutter would have been useless in this situation because line is covered with pvc,but you would think person that designed there new QR would have learned from this tragic accident, new QR will not release If bar jams against it OMG, TONY
Can someone please explain how the board attached by a boardleash acts like an anchor when the kite starts looping? Shouldn't the board get dragged out of the water?
Quote (teacher) i screamed through the radio to QR and headed towards him,in less than a minute i was at his side; In one minute you could QR at least 20 + times. (QUOTE)I ran at the rear i catched him he was in a panic and drank some water,i told him to QR and he said he coudent , this is an ex windsurfer sailor and he coudent QR . I beleive that qr was faulty ,please can somebody confirm what QR (RENE RIP) was using, this is very important, thanks TONY.
