How do you tack a directional face into the wind ?

Although I always enjoy learning new moves there is little interest in learning the same move both ways as the tack is purely practical so at the end of the day I end up always doing the one i prefer (or do best) which is the "round the mast type" for ex windsurfers .

I remember learning the toe side tack few months ago (switch the feet before starting the tack) which can only be done as a duck tack (loved this move on a windsurfer) but use it very rarely these days

when you turn board nose downwind and have wind at back its called a Jibe.
I thinks thats where the confusion is.
A tack is when the board´s nose goes up wind, thru the eye of the wind.

If you do a roll its a duck tack
If not its a shove-it

but i cant do any tacks yet...next year

Had all summer with straps off- only was out on TT one session. Put on straps for 3 sessions. Sorta learned to jibe with the bloody straps. Took em off again.

I know it has been a while, but I remember someone asking if there was an onboard video of a duck tack.

One and a half year later - DANG, suddenly on a warm summerday in a shorty, where you sometimes wanted deliberately to get wet, I tried again (have not even tried the last year), and it was so close, that after some attempts I succeded

Can still not do it regularly at all, but sometimes it works now

From a kitecam on the next day out in the waves, I accidentally shot one of the duck tacks when going upwind outside



I was thinking "I am too old for this shit" just like Roger Murtaugh, and did not even try for a long time, but suddenly it was nailed

Nice. For me this clicked watching a friend do it. It is weird, but my head has to conceptualize it. Once I saw him I nailed it the first time (but wasn't consistent then..reasonably consistent now). I think it is pretty easy on the directionals as you do not have to be as accurate....and I have had a lot more problems on a raceboard. Going straight into the strap is necessary on those and there is no time to lean in and mess about.

On my surfboard I like the drawn out ones, where you slide a lot more around. It is not as practical but can look pretty cool when you nail them..

From toeside to heelside tacks....and heelside to toeside tacks...."carving the water"

Now i do a lot "air tacks" in that fashion by trowing a downloop...backloop the board 180....
....plane out of it...with 2 twists in lines...resume by spinning bar twice in direction of loop

I've seen the foil boards do this, but is it possible on a surfboard? I've kinda seen people do this on a wave when they break the back fins loose and do a 360 without leaving the water.

Me too i have seen "foil boards" do it....so is it possible on surfboards do do that 180 board tack ....
either toeside to heelside or heelside to toeside.....without "levitating".....or board leave the water
