Most used small kite is a Blade Trigger 5m in 40+ knots that helped me get a peak speed of just over 46 knots but my smallest kite used on 2 or 3 occasions has ben a 3m Starkites Sbow when it was proper windy but although the speed runs were good it was difficult to get back up-wind on the 3m. It was just for the novelty factor and I reckon below 5m is only good for kids and school use.

I have a Flysurfer maniac 3.5 mt - is about 8 years old and has saved many a windy session. Not really a boosty kite - but bloody good fun - out in 30 knts and a door is a blast - scream up wind - throw the kite around and can't damage yourself

Smallest kite - 8m OR Razor, which I could ride in probably anything from 15 to 30, 15 on a surfboard easily.

Most used - 12m OR Razor

My smallest is a 5m fuel with TT.
Got a surf brd but not good with it.
My goto is the 11m fuel.

I should add i'm not a Fuel type kiter...just a hack... and own fuels cause i like good 5 line kites and fuels can still last even when you get them 2nd hand.

Also I'm a puny kiter at 63kg so a 5m is really not all that small for me... I had it out in probably under 20kts with no problems.

I wish others had put their weight in their posts... would've been good way to compare.

It is a kite with extreme depower - and I love that.

I have tried many other 5m2 kites, both other Takoon kites and also other brands - and they have all had the same problem: They PULL too much when they are turned !

I like high depower small(est) kites :thumb:

Good post. With my limited kiting skills I've noticed this to be true with the kites I fly (fuels).

When I'm on my 7m in the high end it pulls me around like a rag doll and especially in the turns. I'm relegated to just going back and forth for the most part. The 11m seems to be more manageable in the higher wind range for some reason... probably for the reason you say. I wish I could manage my 7m cause I really like it... but the wind range seems so small at the moment.

Oh... i use fuels for simple reason they're good 5 line kites... I'm not a Fuel type kiter if you know what I mean.

nice to know I am not the only one who wants to fly ;-)

*Like*
... not many of us out there hey!! One of the other guys at my local has a 16m Dyno and just about rides all winds too with the good 'ol Dyno. He too loves to fly! I think our new 14m Rebels are destined to sit in the back of the car for a long time!!!!

You are right - I just put my weight (77kg) at the post.

But when dealing with waves, it does not seem to matter that much if you are 70 or 95kg, as many got almost the same small kitesize when "windy" - and the heavier guys got a slightly bigger board then :naughty:

In the big kitesizes, 9m2 and up, rider weight matters much more it seems - when talking about waves.

Dont really know why it is so (although I think it is because of the huge range small SLE kites got today, and still fast turning - and maybe footstrap position a bit further forward when heavy, besides a bit bigger board maybe) - it is more a fact and an observation 8)

For TT riders the kitesize is typically chosen "more" according to weight

mine is 4.5m Cult 2010 - awesome kite for strapless waveriding. I have been in up to 50 knots, gusting, but quite steady wind and that's where its highend pretty much is.

I weigh 80kgs, and the kite is performing from 30knots onwards. Great great kite! Looping doesn't generate any sudden spikes etc. and overall the power delivery is unbelievably smooth for such a small kite. I ride it with 19meter lines and yes, it turns fast enough.
