I have no problem to jump high and make smooth controlled landings, as long as I keep going in the same direction. I tried a couple of times to jump high and redirect the kite in the opposite direction when I descend for landing, but the result is always the same, I land quite hard and sink...
How do you do it??

ride slower when you lift off...send the kite into zenith, pull the bar, lift off...shortly before coming down pull hard to the other direction.
Let us know if it worked!

I agree with toby, go slower and redirect your kite in the opposite direction from zenit when you start to descend.

you want to be going straight up, not forward when you jump.
and you do not want to waste the kite energy to stop your forward motion so JUST before you lift off, use the board to stop your forward speed by cutting up wind
then you will be able to use the kite to change direction and land softly

Downloop just before landing, this will give you a really smooth landing and provided plenty of speed so you won’t sink

Riding slower is the best way to suss out the kite angles, body weight distribution and timing required. Once you master small transitions you can crank it up a bit. I love riding flat out and boosting mega transitions at almost full speed. As you come to a stop at the apex of your jump send the kite in the other direction for a fast smooth transition :D

Had two sessions today. First with a pretty slow Royal Solo 12.5m.

The wind picked up in the afternoon, so I took my Cabrinha IDS 9m.

Practised jump transitions and I did land at least a handful of smooth transitions.

However, many of the landings were still quite hard. When I do normal jumps in one direction I usually sheet out the bar and then sheet it in just before I start to redirect the kite when I go down for landing.

With jump transitions I found it harder to obtain this upward lift that you can get by sheeting out sheeting in. The redirect of the kite was also a bit harder... harder to time it... perhaps do I just need more practise? =)

One thing I've noticed in doing these (do a ton). You will have lots of hard landings with the small kite (unless you loop it). With a bigger kite you jump float down to a point close to the water then send the kite the other way to gain power and complete the trans.

eg. with 16m due to the float (hang time) I can take the board off, put back on and trans. You will need to also have more wind. eg. at 13-14kns jump trans have to be well timed (no board offs). 16-20 you can jump hang in the air for a bit float down and send the kite.

Try with your 12m in 16-20kns you will feel the float and do them no problem, nice and soft too.
