Hey guys,
How is the situation in Egypt? Planning to go to Ras Sudr. But how is the safety there?
Is there a problem around the kite spots due to political situation?

I think all tourists areas are safe. Wouldn't go to Cairo though. But for sure Hurghada is safe. Been there last year and no problem at all. And everyone who stayed during the riots said, it was all relaxed in Hurghada area.

I would be worried about the political situation changing suddenly and then being stuck in Egypt due to flights being cancelled...

I heard on the news the other day that the tourist areas aren't offered the same security at the moment as they were under Mubarak. According to what they said some groups have already taken advantage of this and situations have occurred. But news is news.....it could be anything from nothing to a lot

Even that you are from Lebanon and "closer" to the culture, i won't go there if i were you. (I hope some day i can kite at Lebanon... Tripoli seems like a windy spot)
Here is a short summary of some of the things which happened at the past two weeks at the "kiting part" of Egypt:
1. A tourist bus was kidnapped and held for ransom. 2. Two American tourists were kidnapped from their hotel and held for ransom. 3. 12 policemen (Including 2 high ranking officers) where kidnapped. 4. An entire Hotel was held hostage for ransom.
You guys are a bit clueless about the situation so I'll explain why these things are happening, in a nut shell:
Mubarak is no longer in control and the Egyptian army has very little forces available to deal with the Bedouin tribes at the eastern parts of Egypt, especially in the Sinai region. The Bedouin tribes deal with Human trafficking, grow drugs and deal with weapons smuggled mostly from Libya. The Bedouin tribes will do anything for money and there is no one to stop them right now. The Bedouins are trying to hurt the Egyptians in any way ( They want to rule their region with no interference of any law) and they just found a way to also make a little profit while doing so.
