Check it http://s2as.blogspot.com/2011/09/new-shinn-monk-2012-review.htmlI agree, the Shinn boards are pretty special. I think the OP was really looking for someone to tell him what he wanted to hear, so he finally got that with the Select devotee and now he's happy, which is nice. I've done that several times with gear. I am not Shinn affiliated, I was giving an opinion based on buying a used Luigi and loving it. I thought the Blunt was nice until Shinn blew it away. And it is not just the Monk, the Shinn boards are all pretty special, I've asked a bunch of people who own various models and nobody has been anything other than very pleased with what they got. People that own Monks are fanatical about their boards, they must be the goods!! All the Shinn boards are amazing, I've ridden the Monk, Luigi and Supershinn a fair bit but am still really happy with my Gintronic! The North pricing and pimping of the Select is just plain retarded! They think they are pioneering but carbon boards have been around for ages...what have they been smoking?lol! Also, carbon fibre is really brittle so one big impact would finish your billion dollar board

Even I do prefer the Select over other boards at the moment I can agree that Shinn Monk is a very very good board. I have a Shinn board for light wind with big kites when smallest Select just does not have enough width. It is pure size that helps in marginal conditions and in not so well planing conditions with a big kite pulling down wind. I have been very happy with that one. Solid and strong boards that feel good on you feet.
There are many good boards out there and it is finally the feeling you get on the water. And there the Select felt best for me.

Anyone else has been on the Select? This is narrowing down to Select and Trax.
Is the Select much better than the Jaime an Team?
Tnks! The Select is an overpriced and overhyped piece of junk! The Trax is a nice board...but again WAY overpriced with poor construction, crappy ABS rails and prone to delamination issues. F-One are also renowned for their poor customer care regarding warranty claims! The Shinn monk is quite simply the best twin tip ever made for chop and soft landings! Seriously dude it feels like it hovers over the chop and it frikin flies upwind! Trust me when I say...THE MONK LAUGHS IN THE FACE OF ALL 3 OF THOSE BOARDS YOU'RE CONSIDERING!!!! Check it http://s2as.blogspot.com/2011/09/new-shinn-monk-2012-review.htmlPoor construction ? Poor costumer care ? Are we talking about the same Fone ?! My little brother is riding my 2009 Trax. Board looks like new. I have a 2010 Trax also looks like new. The one time i had a problem with an Fone kite (tribal 2006) the guys at Fone replaced the part no questions asked, even though the kite was over the warranty time. I agree with URSS regarding the TX.... But when i get enough cash i am replacing my 2010 Trax with a 2012 Trax ! The only other board i tried and considered replacing my 2010 Trax with is the Xenon LaLuz.

bob10 wrote: north select is a very cheaply constructed board marketed up to stupid costs Agreed, they also claim it to be the lightest board...but I have compared one to the Zenon Laluz and the Laluz felt lighter! Seems all North have to do is put a few pictures of F1 cars on their website and chat a load of BS about how cutting edge there board is and gullible people will lap it up all day long Carbon fibre is not cutting edge technology anymore and it isn't that suitable for kiteboards. It may be strong and flexible but it is also extremely brittle breaking easily on surface impact...I wouldn't want to repair one that has hit a rock! Look at this mess! Attachment:

precisly, and the brittle carbon layer, is too thin,,,, and they've used a cross weive fibre. anyone with any knowledge would use uni direction as strengthening inside, with much more suitable glass on the outside

Ok I have ridden the Monk also it is very nice but think I still prefer my Trax just by a little, I like 39 wide thats all and the Monk was 40 wide. Like everyone says try them all and choose the best for you! Here in Brasil we see alot of people from Europe with North gear they seem to be happy but I cant get a grip on a TT for over 1200 dollars haha!

Hi! Thank you all for your replies. Oldnbroken, it's not that I got what I wanted to hear. I'm narrowing down to Trax & Select, but you all got me thinking about Monk now. The fact remains that I have received many posts and pms from riders and friends showing their love for the board they ride, but haven't been able to find but one good comparison of the boards. The other thing is that everyone complains about North's prices (and in some cases Trax price too), but at $800 the Shinn Monk isn't much cheaper. There is no Shinn retailer in town so at the time I decide for a Monk I will end up paying for board + shipping almost as much as for the others. On the other hand, Xenon's La Luz seems great and the price is more affordable given that the one available is a 2011. But then I wonder if the 2012 (if it comes out) will make the 2011 obsolete. Thanks again to all!

Thanks again to all! A buddy of mine has the 2011 Laluz and loves it. He has a Blunt as well and he likes his Laluz better. Get in touch with Chris at KiteNaked on the Shinn boards and see if he can hook you up. He had some still new Monks with the original Gorilla graphic on the bottom that he was selling cheaper than the new boring graphic version. Tell him I sent you if you get in touch.

Oh and don't get hung up about the 2012 model..I guarantee its almost exactly the same as the 2011.
