My new schooler son wants to destroy his board on metal rails and wooden ramps. Is there anybody with personal experience on ramps and rails to convince him that this is true or convince me that it isn't ?

Anything else but water will damage your board.
Built a pvc kicker and this too damaged the bottom deck.

overall with a hdpe board and with wood core rails shouldnt hurt boards, but thats if u hit them right, when you screw up, thats when damage occurs

foam cores... another story. usally fine but more likely to be hurt

still mashing the bottom of a board wont hurt it as boards are under likely failure from the top not the bottom skin. most likely board killer is smashing the rail which will cause delam.

Let him rock an old retired board on the kickers and rails, and if he breaks it, he buys his next one from his paper route money

yea it depends on the board and whether or not he makes any mistakes. It will certainly mark the bottom of the board in a way that will probably make you very unhappy, gauging from your tone in your original post.

More likely than not the board will be toast eventually. Why can't you pick up a beater board and have him destroy that? You could even find a used wakeboard for him. I'd say if you really wanted to stoke him out you could find him a decent board for 100$, something ridable for 50$ if you know a friend who has seriously old stuff. I bought 2 of my slider boards last season for 150$ (used) and 125$ (brand new) both 2011.

Gia sou Ned Divine,
Boards are made to be abused. Some of them get abuse more then others. So in few words, you will be getting a lot of scratches on the bottom of your boards against anything hard and sharp you get your board on. If you want to keep it off from scratches or dings, keep it on the water only.

Any board can hit sliders or kickers but in the case of most kiteboards it's not the intended purpose. There is to much flex in the board and they will bow in the middle if you're hitting sliders also there is a layer of protective plastic but it's usually only PFT not PET or UHMWPE use din most wakeboards and snowboards.

Only purpose built board I know of that is built to take slider kicker abuse is the new Hadlow Wakestyle board. It has a grind base (probably UHMWPE) so it can take the abuse like a wakeboard/snowboard. If you're not so keen on using your kiteboard at the beginning stages get a old wake skate to practice on. It can take the abuse in the beginning while you getting use to the feeling of hitting kickers and sliders. You can also bail out if things go pear shaped, not to mention it being just plain good old fun 8)

People who don't use sliders call it damage, people who do call it wear and tear :thumb:
