Pimp My Board Competition Winners Announced: Consider yourself pimpedThe 'likes' from Facebook have been counted, the top twelve entries selected and now the judges votes have been cast with the top three designs selected. The final judging team was comprised of Franz Schitzhofer and Sam Flotat our board shaper and graphic designer, as well as the marketing and sales teams at BEST. The competition was close, with a huge number of entries coming in from all over the world. In the end three designs stood out from the rest to claim their positions on the podium.
In third place, John, who's richly layered design stood out to the judges as having an Escher like quality. Franz commented that, "John's design contained a lot of graphic detail that worked on many different levels, with no single graphic element dominating the overall design". Sam Remarked that, "John managed to integrate the stacked BEST logo perfectly into the design, with elements of geometric camouflage that contribute to its richly textured feel."

John wins a selection of soft goods from schwerelosigkite.
In second place was Fanni, who came up with an 'above and below' themed design, using a hand drawn style to place visual elements from above and below the waterline onto the top and bottom surface of the board. Sam commented that, "Fanni's design presented a real art concept, as well as a unique hand drawn style that reminded him of children's book illustrations". Franz expressed, "I really like Fanni's board, everything that goes into kiteboarding is represented here. If we ever decide to make a kids board we should keep this style in mind, it's never been done before and would look great."

In first place was Nuno who created a cartoon urban feel that shows an appreciation of the work of Japanese printmaker Hokusai. The team all thought that this was the most professionally designed board. Sam said, "I love the Tsunami wave. The Hokusai print is the best known wave in the world; it's fitting that it should be on a board from BEST. I like this a lot. It mixes historical with fresh- a well deserved winner." Franz explained, "For me that is the winning board. It has the perfect placement of graphic elements, he has designed around the footpad placement and presented a design with strong, bold colors using a graffiti treatment to update a piece of classic print art. He has captured the direction of the market. Congratulations! I look forward to seeing your design come out of the press."

We contacted Nuno to tell him of his win in advance of the announcement. "I never dreamt that I would win, well I did dream but didn't think it could happen. The quality of entries was so high, I'm shocked. I feel like the wave on my board, I've reached my peak, and now I'm surfing on happiness. Thank you so much for chosing my design, to be recognized means so much. Thank you again to everyone who supported me with ideas, comments and who voted for me on Facebook."
We will be fixing Nuno's design for production and preparing the foils to print his board as soon as possible. We will be sure to update everyone once again when his board is delivered.
We would like to thank everyone who took part, created a design, submitted a board, voted on Facebook and helped us to spread the word all around the web. We have a few ideas regarding what we might do for the next competition- it will certainly be something that everyone can join in with and as usual the prizes will be exciting and unique.
