Im looking to get a combo high wind kite for the water and was thinking it could double as a land kite. I weight 175lbs and was wondering what size kite to get. Online I was reading people who have posted that a 4-5m was sufficient in 15mph wind. I most likely would only landboard in less than 15mph as I would go to the water if there was more.
At my weight is a 6m kite too much for landboarding? I would use it in 25-40 mph winds on the water.
There are some good deals on rallys so I was thinking about getting a 6m rally.

If you're flying in steady winds on hard-packed smooth terrain, 6 might be enough to get you going, not sure about getting you jumping.
In a forecasted 15mph at my local spot (Zilker Park in Austin, TX), we have gusty & shifty winds, so I use between a 10m and a 14m depending on how heavy the gusts are/frequent the lulls are. As far as my weight and gear used, I weigh ~155lbs, fly on Nemi HPs (10,12,14) or Kahoonas (11.5,13.5), and ride on an MBS Pro 90.

There are some good deals on Liquid Force Envy 7m and Slingshot Key 7m completes out there. I just got a 2011 Envy 7 for 699 complete at Real. Kiteboarding.com has the Key 7m complete for around 699 complete. Check Kitepaddlesurf.com, too. I think they are in the same ballpark price wise. Got my MBS Comp 95 for 215$ on Amazon of all places, most stores have them for around 300. Good luck, be safe.

When you read about guys using 5-6m kites on landboards in 15mph they are talking fixed bridles not lei's. A 5-6m will bore the tits off you on a landboard in 15mph. just use a size down from what you use on the water to start with. then upsize when you get the hundle of the jandle.
I don't down size for riding the land. infact some times i'm riding a bigger kite!.. but i'm a bit weird!
i'm using my 15m speed 3 on the land up to 18-20 knots. i'll then hold my 10 to 25 knots or so..... only then do i step into my 6....
but i've been landboarding for 6 years.
ps i'm 82 pies

I think your 6m idea is a good one. You can landbord on hard pack with almost any size kite, just changes your style. I have land boarded with a 4m Ozone Catalyst. Works well for me, although I limited it to modest air transitions.
