My local water is in 40's f. ..so to remember what pleasant water is like, I occasionally pull up the Jupiter Inlet cam in Florida.. http://www.evsjupiter.com/main.htm

This Monday afternoon at about 15:20 local time .. the camera snaps someone kiting in the inlet. I do not know the actual lay of the inlet but the winds were 15-20kts, falling into 12, mostly due East flickering N/S. I also do not hang around inlets so do not know how the currents run, but I see a buncha big rocks to the North and a buncha fishermen on the South side. I suspect neither would be too pleased to welcome you ashore.

Answering my question; I suspect he does .. or does the kite in top picture not match?

Earlier, here were two kites out - outside the jetty. This picture was taken at 16:00. I did not see where the other went....

Anyway .. pretty water.

Every diver tells me to stay away from inlets as it's where Mr. Toothy likes to frequent for snacks.

That guy is in a bad situation.

People kite in the inlets all the time, just have to have enough wind and the jettys (and the fishermen) are fun to jump over.

and our water temps are climbing back up toward 80, sucks for you ;)

So dyyylan. You and KBTB comment on Miami, post number 2 and 3 below like Miami is a problem. Maybe so in some cases.

The spots that have been banned in Miami or that have issues are usually the ones that are heavily visited by others. But......you think with kiting in inlets and jumping over rock jettys like you suggest will improve your status? Think again.

I'd kite in there for shits and giggles if the conditions where right. unless of course there was some kind of ban or restriction. kiting in different spots is interesting. definately beats the same old same place every time. I agree jumping jetties is fun.
The second picture imo is more dangerous. the kiter is only a couple of meters directly upwind of s0me swimmers. that i do not do kite that closely to swimmers.

Yeah, no wonder Florida has some access issues. Look close and there are lots of swimmers. Too close, unless this awesome kiter had a large film crew capturing their awesomeness on film. Wouldn't want to assume they are just swimmers now, would I?

That must be Madtown?

My buddy Mike just went down there last weekend and rode around the ice. Looks fun!

I don't see much of a problem; plenty of landing resources.
Looking at the whole picture, it doesn't look nearly as bad.
Worst case scenario: damaged kite, if the rider hasn't forgotten he's got a quick release.
No body harm, unless Mr. Toothy has been following the rider.
Correct me if this is not the right inlet.
