I used weed fins on the Sector V1 and V1.5. They helped, but our local inland lake level was low last summer and nothing worked. I tried the FCS adapters with a couple of different fins and found that they worked even better for weeds, but I did lose some upwind ability. I bought FK-2 fins which are about as big as a FCS fin as I could find with a lot of sweep. I'm no surfer, but I think I did feel flex in the fin.

G'day Droffats,

thanks for great info.

I'm keen to have a try of the weed fins but I'd really like to try the surf looking fins as I want to try and get the Sector to surf a little better.

I've had heaps of fun in small waves but when I try to carve a bottom turn, (well sort of bottom turn) and then cut back, the big fins just don't give enough. I'm not expecting surfboard style but enough to feel like I'm doing it, but the big fins really don't give an inch so these new ones look the part and I would expect turn better.

I wonder if a pair of the 0 deg cant as rear fins is okay or will it make the upwind suffer too much not having the 5 deg cant fins!

Any opinions greatly appriciated!

cheers,

Robbie :D

Wow, they look great those V3. I wonder how much earlier you would get going on the new big one compated to the 60 ? The big one is almost a raceboard and it much cost on the manouvrebility?

Also a competitor on its way that also look great and from a company that know how to make boards for sure !

I don't know much about real surfing so it's tough for me to say about the angle of the fins and such. I'm not even sure I had the right adapters in the correct slots. (I had to buy two sets of the FCS adapters becuase they are for thruster setups.)

Either way, they seemed to work well, but unless you have really bad weeds, I think I'm trusting Airush did their homework on the V3 Sector 54. A really good surfer will probably get the most out of doing the FCS conversion. I"m just not good enough to maximize the fin advantage.

Hi Robbie,

It is possible but may or may not be the most cost effective. The standard tri fin configuration on the Sector V3 54 is mini tuttle which would fit on your V2 no problem, but it is a tri fin so exploring the idea of getting 2 sets and saving the center fins for a rainy day is a possibility.

Asking your local retailer would be the best.

G'day Schmidy,

I may have to go the tri fin setup of the V3 54 and get an extra 17cm mini Tuttle/Vertical but as seen above in my other posts, I'm not sure how 2 vertical fins will behave. Do you have any experience with this??

cheers,

Robbie :)

Puetz, you could buy Windsurf quad waveboard fins with mini-tuttle bases. They are designed to work as a set and they have a good range of sizes and could maybe advise on the best combination of rear fins to go with the front canted fins.

The areas are in square cms.

These things have interested me for a while... how easy are they to just jump on and ride? Is the learning curve as step as a raceboard?

They are plug and play.. I have seen a lot of people with very intermediate skills look more comfortable on these after a few runs than they do on their twins..

Unlike raceboards you can ride the sector on the rail, split the weight evenly between front and back leg and ride with power for hours. They do get more efficient if you ride them flat like a race board but your legs do not last long - i generally reserve that for when the wind dies to virtually nothing and you need to make the next gust or swell.

Gybing.. well that takes some thought and practice.. if it is windy enough to hold your kite in the air then you can just turn the board round in the water and then water start, but the things are so efficient that one of the problems is having the kite fall out of the sky when you are at a standstill..
if your kite is not super low aspect you can struggle to get it off the water.

Robbie, did you try to ride your S52 with only 2 back fins? I'm sure it would not be well balanced, but might be doable (riding more on the back foot). Plus very easy to try

I've tried the 52 and 60 with two back and two front and found both just not good. Not very stable was the worst thing. Hard for me to understand why, but it was just not worth it.
