The aptly-named Revolution is an amazing kite. It flies forward, backward, sideways, up and down. You can accelerate or brake and even come to a complete stop and hover in one spot. It loops on its own axis. It is water-relaunchable, and can fly in 2 knots! And it is neither a LEI nor a foil. Just imagine what a competent freestyle kiteboarder could do with one of these!

Here you can see the water-relaunch capabilities.

And here you can see the light wind capability. This kite is flying in 2 mph!

Fantastic! This is perhaps paving the way to a revolution in the kiteboarding world.

Bille mentioned it in another thread recently.

Is there any reason a bigger version of it wouldn't work with a bar and harness?

NOT sure about the water relaunch-able part but Rev makes one i will try at Mohave
in a few weeks. Think i'm good enough to NOT drop it, but Want a follow boat for This one.
If anyone plans to give it a go, I suggest Ya get a bunch of hours on the Rev 1.5 first.
It is a LOT different to fly than a typical water kite we use on this forum !!

It says at 4m it has the equivlent power of a 8m traction kite
BUT
remember a traction kite has MORE projected aria than even a bow or hybred kite.
Here it is :

i hope you can show us the stunt kite's capability of moving rider on the water upwind?
other wise it is all just the viewing of the just another interesting hobby.

i think bi-di kite lacks most important quality to be a kiteboarding kite, the potent foil profile.

and, remember why most biggest kite manufacturers name their every kite's stile something-C-something? it's because they think that everyone like C kites for the powered turns. well, if you revers bi-di kite without turning or powered turning and "C kite feeling", what they will call their kites then?

Dear SupaEZ, you must register whenever it is not clear to all, as seems the case here, that the question is feigned silliness, plain silliness, or a stroke of genius. You get extra points when it's genuine.

Don't you know the rules, even in anticipation?

It was a GENUINE question :D
Meant as a POWERSTROKE of silly genius :P

Amazing what it can do. But when I looked at the pricing locally I lol'd very hard. A few spars and some ripstop/mylar $580? give me a break.

looks like a modern day C-Quad.

let us know how it goes Bille,

Hopefully its not as brutal.

On a side note. kites that can pivot turn and spin on an axis annoy me. i much prefer a powered turn. you loose most of the power through a pivot turn.

I have a 4-8 powerblast I picked up on ebay for an experiment. Its a fun kite and very fast. It flies fine on the bar and in fact the bar is easier than handles because how much rear line tension there is. On handles it is really taxing on the wrists.

While I have not flown it on the water, I would not compare it to an 8m tube kite. Maybe a 5 or 6 at most. But it is much more technical to fly and get power and the leading edge spar is delicate so it does not lend confidence to try things on the water. Also, I would not consider the video with the rev relaunch representative of a situation where a kite surfer is drifting in the water with down kite and slack lines and needs some wind to help tense the lines.

One issue is the kite is very fast so you can send it out of the window. Due to the heavy front spar this can cause some hindenburging, but that happens much faster and more forcefully than it does with a tube kite. It has little springs in two of the struts to give the profile some reflex when the lines are slack. Sometimes this concept works and the kite acts like a glider and floats back into the window when the lines are slack. Its really amazing when this works.

Finally, while the kite does fly backwards, but it generates power better when flying forwards. I'm not sure that this would offer any benefit for the purpose of a fast jibe.

A buddy and I used two different sizes of big ones for landboarding, back when Revolution first started talking about making big ones. They did not believe we wanted them that big.
This was about four or five years ago, he got a couple made, they were powerful and finicky.
I would never use one in the water.
