I keep wondering why people always want to make our sport a copy of other sports?
Wakeboarding, surfing, sailing...

It should always be KITEsurfing and not kiteSURFING.

I beg to differ with you Toby. What most people do on this forum is kiteboarding, including you. Guys like BW(and TDZ) are the ones who are actually kitesurfing or as you say KITEsurfing. Just keeping it real.

Getting pulled by a kite while you do "S" turns and hacks in front of the pocket is a different kind of kitesurfing in my opinion(I think that's what BW was getting at). The "powered style" has more windsurfing roots while BW is trying to promote a more "Surf Style." Not better, just different.

I see you're pushing your new video called "Striclty Hooked Airstyle" on this forum and that's really cool. You have a vision of what you think kiteboarding is and you are trying to showcase it and make a descent living doing it. You are not in any competitions are you? How come? You're just making videos of what you think is cool. Isn't that the same thing BW's doing? Well not really I guess. His instructional vids are free on his website. To me, that's someone trying to share a stoke. I'm just saying.......

Not trying to bag on anyone's style, they are all cool to me, including yours Toby :D

I agree with most of what you wrote but the real reason Toby and BW (BW's free video is mostlly marking ploy, it gives his website better ranking with the search engines) are not competing is because they have found a way to make money in the sport and don't have to compete, and I say more power to them.

you pay my costs I have with filming the DVD and it will be for free.
I am putting up about 30.000 Euro for all...want my bank account to do the wire transfer?
If it was about money, I would have had a concept, get sponsors in, way before doing it.
But I just do it, because I think something is missing in the sport.

Easy to bash, hard to make things happen.

I was not talking about your DVD, I'm talking about this forum and I'm happy for you that you are making money out of it, (just like BW is making money selling his kites, boards, etc..,) I understand you have to make a living, pay for the programmers, etc.. so I'm not bashing, I'm just pointing out the obvious.

Ah, ok, nevermind.

But there is a difference:

Kiteforum, kitebeaches and the DVD have not been started to make money.
It was hobby and fun, which turned into a job, since it takes up all of my time.

Yes, about 30.000 Euro:
- camera man 8 weeks Brazil, 6 weeks Philippines, about 3-4 weeks Egypt (next)
- camera equipment rent
- travel expenses for two
- trailer costs
- logo
- animated tricks
- music rights
- cutter
- DVD production and booklet

And all that is on the cheaper side with lower prices...

But at least I know no one would do that again...since no one would be as stupid to put that much money up without sponsor and not knowing how sells will be...at least it will be unique this way...and anyway, it would be a copy...

Ben just wants to do it for fun but needs more people (surfers in this case) involved in the sports so he can continue to have fun. It's always about money and in order to make money there has to be commercialization. I started kiting because the surf was way too crowded and 10 years down the line I'm starting to find the same thing with kiting.
Do me a favor Ben and cut the BS. If you are just doing it for yourself then why the need to invite all your potential friends/customers?
