The fins are pretty sharp and pointy, and the lines can pretty much strangle and tie people up....

I'm trying to reduce the weight of my check-in golf bag....fins and the control bar are actually really fricking heavy...

They would not let me on the plane with a kite bar in my carry on bag. No problem with surfboard fins for me though.

Yup, no doubt about it, bar and lines are a lethal weapon!

I'm surprised the lawyers haven't forced the mfr's to attached warning labels to the bar/lines.

JFK won't allow a bar, unless it is for medical reasons!!

I think it probably depends on what airline. I recently went to mexico through LA and had my pump inside carry-on and lines strapped on the outside and no problems... Put fins in checked bag.

I've been able to carry the bar & lines on in the past, but it wasn't allowed on a flight about 18 months ago from Ireland to USA and I'm lucky the security employee was kind enough to walk me to special baggage and he had it bagged for me as extra luggage with no charge...but it could have been another not so pleasant person and that would have meant "lose the bar or miss the flight". I'm not sure I would risk it again. Fins might be a problem too. Forfeiting wither of these things would be a costly and inconvenient disaster.

Enforcement and policies seem to be so capricious from one employee to another. I'd play it safe though. You can't argue with these guys very successfully and the minute you start they seem to become even more unreasonable...and you can be denied boarding if you complain too much.

on a related note - I saw a "jacket" someone invented that is basically a suitcase you wear as a vest...you can pack quite a few things into this "jacket" and they have tested it with al the airlines. Basically give you the volume of an extra "carry-on" bag. Looks pretty goofy but then the baggage limitations are goofy too.

Wow....I'm glad I asked. really surprised..........................................shocked really....

I don't know where they draw the line between a personal item and a security threat. I guess i'll just pack clothes in my carry-on.................dot dot dot........

I have carried kites and bars on planes sooo many times to various country's and have never even been questioned. Sometimes I put two kites in one bag and one in another taking 3 on the plane. Save's the dreaded over 50 pound weight limit for golf bag's. I might have to be more careful on how I pack after reading some of these comments.

Mike,

Ship those to your destination ahead of time. It's small and cheap and probably around $20 only each way.
