Maybe time for a license? Maybe would make it safer with more in depth instructions, more expensive, quality instead of quantity?

Guys we forgetting one thing here and its the retailers. Back in 2003 the IKO was trying to get something like this started but as far as I can remember one of the main hurdles was getting the retailers to buy in. At the end of the day they want to sell kites it's a double edged sword. Retailers need people to buy kites and everything else that goes with it, but if beaches get banned because of n00bs with little to no training making stupid mistakes, they'll have nobody to sell kites too. That being said I always reminded my students that unfortunately all the training in the world does not negate the fact that our sport uses Mother Nature as it's power source and accidents do happen no matter how much training you have or how long you have been on the scene. Nothing will every change that and it's not just the n00bs that make mistakes

hi i'm new to the sport, and, i agree, kites are dangerous if you do stupid things with them, and there are pretty safe if you are responsable and dont do stupid things with them ! no question of beginner or not ! seriously, if you want to reserve the spots for yourself and your friends experience kiters and get the new ones excludes, GO FUCK YOURSELF """ water is everyones propriety, i will kite where ever it's not forbiden by the law, not by people like you !!!!! this sport is already expensif, why would you like to make if even mre expensive with more hours of lessons permits and licenses and so on ! for myself, i started no lessons, not one hour lessons, and, i itend to continue so !! no way you and your folks try to get me into buying a licence !!!!!!!

the dude's got a point... I think the beef here is with instructors..(sand sawmis) The point being no way can you take a few lessons and magically be transformed into a savvy waterman... I tend to agree !! much better to be adopted by your local crew and receive advice/ tuition and guidance for life... The spirit should be, share the love---not make a buck off it... It's complicated though---sometimes a Cigar is just a Cigar (Siggy Freud ) I received no message from you Toby... PM this username if you've something to say to me Best Regards fokiten mattthieu wrote: hi i'm new to the sport, and, i agree, kites are dangerous if you do stupid things with them, and there are pretty safe if you are responsable and dont do stupid things with them ! no question of beginner or not ! seriously, if you want to reserve the spots for yourself and your friends experience kiters and get the new ones excludes, GO FUCK YOURSELF """ water is everyones propriety, i will kite where ever it's not forbiden by the law, not by people like you !!!!! this sport is already expensif, why would you like to make if even mre expensive with more hours of lessons permits and licenses and so on ! for myself, i started no lessons, not one hour lessons, and, i itend to continue so !! no way you and your folks try to get me into buying a licence !!!!!!!

I have talked about this before, and there won't be a way to make a licence for kiteboarding because there is no "Choke point." Since i also teach scuba diving along with kiteboarding i can ussually compare the two.
In SCUBA you can go out and buy all the scuba equipment yo need, but to go diving you HAVE to come to a shop and show your certification to get air. Without air you can't go diving and a compressor that can fill a take is an expensive piece of equipment to purchase and maintain, you you have a point where you can check and stop uncertified divers.
In kiteboarding you can go out and buy a kite, go to a beach and fly it. Unless there is someone who watches the beach 24/7 there is no way to stop someone for flying.
Now can you bypass the SCUBA choke point, yes if you have a friend who is certified to get you the tanks, but most divers wouldn't because they know its irresposible. There just wont be that kind of accountability in kiteboarding outside of a few monitored beaches, so i really think its not worth the discussion.
Don't be mad at the instructors and the people who take lessons, at least they recongnize the dangers and have someone show them how to be safe. Your picking your fight with the wrong people to say the problem is kiteschools. Without them you would have even more inexperinced kiters running around.

I tend to agree with this 4 years landboarding then moved on to the water, I practiced bodydragging for 2 days and did countless deepwater relaunches and got deepwater packdowns down to a fine art. And this was before even getting on the board.Never had lessons very few instructors put time in to teaching the safety aspects of kiteboarding. Its seems to be more of an attitude of get them on the water with basic knowledge and they will work it out but at the end of the day we all had to learn at some point. I am glad I started on the water 6 years ago when there was less learners

This may be correct in whichever backwater place you are at, but not for most of the planet. You will find in most places that to get a tank charged commercially the only requirement is that the tank is certified if any certification is required. Non commercially you can do as you please. As for dive schools/shops etc. As per most business they are trying to feather their nests and pay for their expensive compressor! Get your facts straight before issuing blanket statements and save the embareassment of looking like you dont know what you are talking about!! LOL, its another "take it from me I`m an instuctor" post!
