PKRA News:
PKRA Racing in Mexico Just Around the CornerFollowing the amazing and well received Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, tour stop of 2011, the PKRA returns again for the MINI Kiteboard World Tour – set to take place on April 19th through the 22nd. Competitors and spectators alike can look forward to the many riches of the region, which include its classic warm turquoise waters and the friendly, spirited culture of the Mexican people. Additionally, the area remains well recognized for its consistent winds and seemingly endless party atmosphere. Here, the best racers will battle it out for a podium finish at the first PKRA racing event of the year. On the line will be $10,000 in prize money, coupled with the top rankings to start this racing season. In addition, the competitors will gain access to a great slalom course with four identical boards for the ultimate in racing fun. To add to the excitement at Playa Del Carmen, the PKRA will also host an exclusive freestyle exhibition, featuring top riders, Alberto Rondina and Sebastian Garat. Executing the most advanced maneuvers and inspiring tricks, spectators will surely be amazed by the on-water action. Furthermore, this highly anticipated event will coincide with the Mayan Calendar’s most well-known phenomenon, which predicts for transformative happenings at the end of the calendar year. Perhaps, the kiteboarding action witnessed at the MINI Kiteboard World Tour will be exactly what the Mayan Calendar planned for. www.prokitetour.com

Last year had great wind, 10 knots is maybe what you are riding. I think people wanna see freestyle also at minimum not an exhibition of a couple riders. Why are there so many trolls like this kook Gwechall that come on posts starting shit instead of sticking to the topic? Oh well 20 plus knots here where I am at off to kite.

Racing, spinning, dangling. Kiting just doesn't have mass appeal for the masses. It's a lot of fun to do; but not much fun to watch.
How or why some sort of sport involving a ball or driving cars in circles does; I'll never know.
Maybe it's because people can relate to those sports as they did them when they were younger, or their kids do, or they still can at some level.
You've got sports; then you've got extreme sports.
Anyone can pedal a bike down the street. Now ride a mountain bike down the side of a mountain, or hop it around obstacles using the brakes, or put a 20" BMX on a big half pipe.
It's easier from a time, money, effort standpoint to learn how to play golf well enough then it is to learn how to kiteboard.

Ok well I kinda have a hidden agenda... My friend has a son that competed last year and made it pretty far, I think he lost to Dimitri. Was hoping he could maybe get revenge now he is a year older I think like 12 or 13 years old

No dude, i'm just living next to playa and the forecast is just shit for the next days! and here WHEN the wind is blowing it's always between 10 & 16 knots so i think that is not the best place to organise something as big as the PKRA freestyle event with many competitors and spending a lot of money when you are not sure about the wind condition I don't like race course neither, it's really boring for my taste! but it's the only thing that you can organise in a none high wind place (like for the olympics!) and it's a good way to do a good event, promote kiteboarding and have some "chelas" on the beach between kiters! But dude if you are so good, just come and show us some huge air in 12 knots...

Duuuuuudes, take it easy!! I m Mickey the owner PDC Kiteboarding, Playa del Carmen Kite school. From what Mau told me, director of the PKRA, There is a freestyle competition going on. I already signed up some riders so must be! It doesn t count toward PKRA Freestyle competition, as last year, but it s gonna be fun! Course racing will be the big event, and yeah i know, i doesn t look as interesting for the public but still is an important competition for those participating! Let s all be friend in a fucked up world! www.pdckiteboarding.com
