I live in an apartment and I regularly take home a wet kite. I have a balcony and have been thinking of putting up a clothes line to hang the kite on but in worried about it wearing hard on the kite fabric.

I can't leave the kite inflated as wind on the balcony blows the kite around and I can't leave it unattended.

I'm thinking of putting up a steel cable wire that has been fed through a piece of PVC pipe to protect the kite. I'll then need to find some large diameter pegs and maybe pad the inside of the peg.

Is there anything that any of you are doing the would be better than my idea? I really hope that this thread doesn't end up on the 'stupidest threads. Cheers!

I used to leave all struts inflated and LE deflated, rolling the kite, then leave it vertical into the shower, LE up.
Do not roll it up to tight otherwise it will never get dry.

if not dried properly and wet with fresh water, then you get stains, no problems with salt water insted.

This is how I do it too :thumb:

But only to take the worst risk of colour smearing/bleeding away - as there is still a small risk because some of the canopy might "cling" together with the rain drops/water in between

I have never had a wet kite with salt water, as it can be dried very fast if you just put the kite up in the air for a while - which I assume most of us do to dry the kite
And salt water, as you also point out, should not be the same issue regarding colour smearing - although I would dry my kite anyways as soon as possible. :naughty:

But if raining even ever so slightly maybe even only when packing down - the kite will be wet and in risk of color stains when packed or rolled up :o

The risk is VERY small though - it happens quite rare.

Unfortunately, even if it only happens one out of 100 times maybe, it might happen tomorrow if you leave it wet (rain) when packed or rolled :x

I roll out half of the kite, leave it for a few hours, then roll the second half out. Easy to do in any place, kite dries moderately quick (faster inside apartment if you don't mind some sand inside).

Good idea above where the struts remain inflated and kite loosely rolled. I'll remember that one. Especially good when travelling and have limited space.

I live in an apartment as well but have a garage that I use (leave the car out for a bit). Re-inflate but not to sailing pressure enough for the kite to stand on the struts, LE up and leave for a bit to dry.

Otherwise I use the common area of the complex and dry out there. Alternative I will reinflate in the apartment before going to bed and leave it up as per garage.

I always dissassemble the kite (remove all the bladders), run assembled pieces of coat hangarthrough all of them and hang the kite from end to end from the coat room, through this living room, and into the dining/kitchinette area. leave it there overnight and put it all back 2-gether in the morning B-4 work,.... simple and done!

Don't need to dry it if its coming out of salt water. We put our school kites away wet with salt water all the time.

However, coming out of fresh water, you should dry it, or it can mildew.
