This is a call to all kiteboarders. Please help save Kailua beach. A bill is being proposed to ban kiteboarding instruction at Kailua beach park. The Bill's focus is on tour buses and kayaks but kiteboarding will be an innocent victim of this Bill. Kailua beach is the only beach on Oahu to learn how to kite. If this Bill passes we will loose kiteboarding for everyone at Kailua beach. Supporters of Bill 11 have lots of power and money and include Kailua Sailboards & Kayaks who stands to gain a monopoly on activities at Kailua Beach. (minus kiteboarding) The Bill passed first reading and goes to its final vote on May 9th. If it passes we will be killing kiteboarding on one of the beaches it was born. We need everyone's support. Please call and/or email the Honolulu City Council members below to voice your opinion and oppose Bill 11 CD1. We need over 1000 people to email. Please put "Oppose Bill-11 CD1 in the subject line.

Where is Naish in all this? Are they allowing this ban in their backyard?

Ban on teaching kiting overturned
kayak tour operators "it's not fair"
Kite instructors explain it is only safe place to learn on Oahu with no coral as by it's nature you are occasionally pile driven deep into the water sometimes and coral very dangerous - doesn't really happen with other sports.
Kiting allowed

Have seen some "odd" situations with teaching kiting there myself just as an observer, but anyway good luck, people gotta learn safe.

Yeah, where are they?,if this beach get banned then let's not buy any Cabrinha or Naish products, since they're so irresponsible to keep their beach accessible.

I'm just wondering where they are. I don't see any reason to boycott their products. It just seems like it would be in their interest to not allow companies like Kailua Sailboards & Kayaks to take over the only learning spot on the island.

What are you guys talking about?

:o :o :o

This whole thing is a neighborhood board that does not want anyone to go their beach, and a kayaka store owner that start throwing shit at kiters to divert attention.

The bill is not about banning kite boarding as some have inferred this is about banning commercial activity at the beach park.

The city is already going to make some exceptions for water sports activity they just don't want to turn windward side into the next Waikiki

First of all Kailua Beach Park is a public beach park,

The city condemned people's land (The Kalama Family being one of them) for the public beach park some 35 years ago.

The city told them "Take our offer and move off the land"... eviction notices basically.

This is not an area for commerce.

The public has spoken at two city council meetings
They don't want to see the beach turned into a beach for profit area with crap all over like other sides of the island

30 years ago Hanauma bay used to be a nice place
You could take your family there drive down to the beach and relax, see fish and peaceful
If you ever have been there recently...you would never recognize what the city/state has done to pimp this place out,
tour buses, guided snorkeling tours, travel guides, dive guides, visitor center, trolleys, dead reef in the bay from people walking on the 300 year old coral....
We are talking about a limited area here for 500 people a day?
