How many of you say to themselves.....no big priority...i will see good later...too busy today

............................................... :anon: ...................................................................................

Do you think YOU could SEE better?
Have you had an eye test recently to check your distance vision?

Do you know if the people on the water with can SEE you in advance to avoid colliding with you?

Many many people i suspect have uncorrected refractive errors and can't see past 25m sharply

For kiters a yearly eye exam and finely tuned soft contacts (spherical or for astigmatism) is a must
Those who had refractive surgeries (RK / LASIK) your vision could have change so also have test
You could benefit with weak prescription wrap polarized or transitions(changeable tint) sunglasses

Some people over 45 years have monovision fitted contacts (distance power for dominant eye)
Non-dominant eye will have mid-range or near power
Those kiters have somewhat less 3D vision and dept perception is somewhat diminished

I do not see enough people protecting their eyes also from accumulative UV radiation
Sunglasses are a hassle i hear
They get all spotted and i keep losing them...so i do not bother..the sun rays cannot hurt me

To reduce spots order sunwear lenses with a super hydrophobic angle of 116 degrees
Crizal Avance or Sapphire,Crizal Sunshield or Crizal Sunshield Mirrors are great examples
Lenses like that are made to order pretty much worlwide

I leash my sunglasses ( that i wear over my newest contacts) directly to the upper back of harness
Zero loss no matter what size wave or wipeout gets the best of me

Kiters with 20/20 have veiled vision when the glare of the sun gets in their eyes and blinds them
Polarized lenses are a must if kiting facing a low sun (especially with sun lower than 30 degrees)

Maybe many accidents while kiting could have been prevented with sharp vision

Those who have any questions please ask

For sure people should wear sunglasses.
I wear them since 9 years at least, and lost only 3 so far.
No spray in my eyes! My eyes have sun protection and an extra protection if real shit happens.

This is a good topic that will hopefully make a point with people, just like a few other threads that discuss the issues of long term damage from sports (and kitesurfing) related injuries. It amazes me when I see so many people not using good quality lenses (or nothing at all) to protect their eyes. I know a lot of sailors who have damaged their eyes from so much time on the water.

I'll definitely look into the products you mentioned and discuss them with my optician to see if this would be an improvement over my current optics.

These Crizal lenses sound interesting. Do we have to get frames then get lenses made up for them? Sounds expensive and a pain to do. I would be extremely pissed off to spend mega bucks on a pair of sunglasses that don't work significantly better than the cheapies.

The problem with existing watersports sunglasses is that they are too hard to keep clean and fog/smear/scratch free. RainX and Anti-Fog and similar products don't really work on glasses.

I prefer to wear a hat most days. The peak and angling my head stops most direct sun glare and reflected glare is not too much of a problem for me.

We sell Anti-G polarized water-sports glasses and they fly out the door like hotcakes. They come with a head strap AND a neck band so the chances of losing them are pretty much nil. They're not expensive and are eye-savers! Definitely agree with supaEZ, as an Aussie, we have the dangers of UV drilled into us from a young age and it is so important to take care of ones eyes.

I have very sensitive eyes, and any bright sunlight or cloud light, makes my eyes feel like the sun is piercing right through them. So I never walk outside without a pair of sunglasses.

I always look for the best sunglasses I can find, and mostly wear Oakleys with different tint glasses for different light conditions.

I also have a pair of seaspecs, but find that they fog up very quickly when I am on the water and I dont know if the quality of lens is that good. I would prefer to wear my Oakleys but at $1000 a pair, I dont want to crack them or break the frame on impact.

My question is two fold - Does Oakley fall within the specifications you mentioned? Or is there a better sunglass for the water that you know of that can be bought off the shelf?

Tks
El

$1,000 a pair? Damn. Oakley does make some rugged looking water specs, I think they're about $300. There must be similar quality out there for less.
