Hey Guys,

I'd like to get a surfboard, definitely with straps.

I work in India, which means I gotta get on a plane to kiteboard

So, please recommend a surfboard that I could fly with reasonably?

(I weigh 85 kgs)

It's more about the airline than the board.
With some airlines you get horrible fees with only a 6' board, with others no fees with a 7'+ gun.

For your size if you want to experience the "surfing" feeling without a lot of kite power (small kite, sheet out or ride downwind on the wave face etc.) you probably need a board ~5'10 or more.
The bigger the better, within reason.
You could get a "trunk" board of 5' or so, but it would still draw baggage fees, require lots of kite/wind power, and not necessarily feel that different from a twin tip board.
Also it would be hard to learn to jibe on.

From your location, if you are flying internationally, maybe try going to Durban on South African Airways or perhaps (?) Perth/Western Australia on Qantas or a partner.
South African and Qantas are usually known to be surfboard friendly.
But check before you book!
American carriers are horrible for surfboards.

Another thought, if you are learning how to surf w/o kites too, consider something 6'4"-7' or >38 liters of volume, so you can paddle it -and once up, keep going in the flat until you learn to time your take off and turns well enough to stay on the steep part of the wave....

Go to Durban or Mauritius and send pictures!

Mord about the airline than board +1

What board depends on how you ride....or how you want yo tide. There is nothing saying you have to get such and such. Im the same eght as you...I have the 5.5 global naish and have a great time on it..but it needs more power then the 6'1 global which I also like but for a little different reason. Figure out how you think you'll ride...with whet power....
