Current IKA web site lists what the kiteracing rules and equipment are to be uses.
Go here to check out the registered lists kites and boards you can race on. This is going to grow fast now that the sport is Olympic.

Windsurfing had only 1 model that could be used.
Olympic sailing demands everyone uses the same model...

Exactly.. that's my concern. The list mentioned by Gebi has about 30 boards from a dozen manufacturers. Olympics will require just one model...

I don't think anyone has said that it will be a one design race. At the trials in Spain, everyone was riding different boards and kites, and now the event is called "Kiteboarding".
As opposed to the multihull racing where there were multiple types of boats competing for the chance to be an Olympic class, but now they have chosen only the Nacra 17 and the event is called "Nacra 17".
Agreed that all of the Olympic sailing classes have been one design in the past, but does that mean you can't have a box rule?

Not all the Olympic classes are single manufacturer one designs. Some classes specify tighter specs for the one design then others. A one design is just a tighter box.

Olympic Sailing Classes (the athletes) usually controls the rules- unless we are mandated by ISAF to do a selection process to choose a one design board, which myself or none of the riders want.
But we need to keep the arms race from getting out of control...so we will see how the Class rules as they are now, work and evolve. The riders will have the say. Changing the equipment or rules for the equipment happens through submissions from the National governing bodies (NGB"s) of kiting. When a submission is made it is voted on at the IKA AGM meetings. Thats how it works...

So you are saying that the final decision is made by IKA? Uh, and what about board shorts over the wetsuit?
