Very sensible non local looking to ride Holly Beach. I live in Dallas, Tx and have ridden South Padre a lot, but never at Holly Beach. I have read all I can find on the net and understand that some non locals caused some problems at the spot. I am a local at Lake Lewisville in Dallas and understand the importance of scene control to ensure our access. I am always carefull to respect rules, regulations, and sensibility of other people's local beaches.

I am staying on the main land while in SPI and would love to get to Holly if there is anyway. Does anyone know the deal and what I need to do???

Last I heard from some SPI locals was that there were problems caused by some kiters at Holly causing the owner to cut access.

Call up the guys at Air Padre (www.airpadrekiteboarding.com) or SPI Kiteboarding (www.spikiteboarding.com) for more info.

Maybe there is literally no access, but in texas the beaches are not owned by anyone. So if there is a public access then you can go on the beach.

edit: never mind, looks like holly beach is not actually on the gulf

In Texas the water and shore is not owned by anybody and that includes any land that is below the average high tide line (i.e. not a flood tide). But the issue in Laguna Vista and much of south coastal Texas is that all of the land and access roads are private property, so you have to have owner permission to access.

My advise would be to hang out at the north flats and maybe you can make a friend who has some more local info that will never get posted on the internet, for example some kiters might have a home on the water. Maybe they would invite you over? Another option is to rent a boat or a jet ski. Finally, I always though Arroyo or Port Mansifeld might make a cool spot, but I don't know if anybody ever kited there.

Bring some wind with you if you come. We are dying here.
