Hi!
Im planning a possible trip to Cape Town, South Africa in spring 2013.

When is the main season?
NOT the northern hemisphere spring (March -May)
trying in March you are really rolling the dice with wind. If you are flying from US or Eur, those are big dice to roll! Trust me, I found out by experience.
The southern hemisphere summer about December through February has strong wind, most all the time.

Wetsuit nessesary all year arround?
yes. 4/3 in ocean. maybe shorty or trunks langebann

What is the distance between Cape Town and Langebaahn? think about 1.5-2h from blouberg/kite beach cape town (where you might want to stay)

It's an awesome place to visit. If you do go in March or April, you might find wind, and you will also get more waves. Potentially big, awesome waves with head high to double overhead faces. Good if you're a good surfer!
Good luck.

It is summer in december/january/frebruary/march.

And yes, a wetsuit of some kind will be necessary - shorts only is possible, but not for long

If you go when its summer (around february), bring a summer shorty (short arms and/or legs) and an allround suit (3/2mm) for the evenings with low sun where it is not as warm, and more wind (it picks up during the day starting before noon and maxes late in the evening)

Many of us here in DK go to Capetown every year around jan/feb.

Around 100km to Langebaan only.

Shorts and a thin top works fine quite often

About an hours drive from Blouberg' to Langebaan.

I'd say October thru to March are good, with Dec, Jan, Feb being the strongest winds (it can get up to 35 knts some evenings).

I'd avoid late Dec or early Jan as its holiday season, and it's packed! Plus, accoms are more $$$

You'll get away with a shorty wetsuit up in Langebaan, but full steamer needed for Blouberg. Even if it's 40 deg on the beach, the water is still bloody freezing! It's the Atlantic afterall....
