I have Rally's in 6, 8 and 10m (2011). My 12m is a Liquid force Havoc but I am selling it because the low end of the 10m Rally is similar to the Havoc. I am considering getting a 12m Rally as a "light wind kite". Can anyone comment on the overlap of the Rallly in 10 and 12. Will they be to close? Is the 12m considerable slower than the 10? My weight is 75 kg and I mostly use a twintip.
Cheers,
Peter

I use my Rally 12 as my light wind kite. Its got a great low wind, say 15-18 mph, but what I really like is when it gets windy, its still fun. I'm good to 25-28 mph before I even think about rigging down.
I used to turn my nose up at anything bigger than a ten, but I gotta say I've been loving the twelve. No more struggling to get upwind, and nearly double my time on the water.
And yes, there's a good deal of overlap with the ten, but it sure is nice to have that option to really find the sweet spot.

I only have a 10 & 12 At 80kg its not a bad combo for our local winds between 15 & 25knots The amount of times I could have used a bigger kite like a 14 would be minimal, but great to have a not so big kite as my light wind PS: but now getting into racing so will end up with bigger kites anyway

I'd get the 14 instead. I find there is a lot more overlap in the large Rally kites than in the small ones. For instance, I thought the jump from 6 to 10 was too large, but, I'll be on the high on of my 14 when I could also be comfortable on my 10M.
I flew both the 12 and 14 and both, while slower than the 10, are pretty fast large kites. That said, I'm about 84 kg., so maybe the 12 is all you need. I think you'll like either.

You should definitely read these threads: viewtopic.php?t=2375293&p=744724Many people are pissed because the 10 and 12 are almost the same kite. You may well regret not going to the 14... HTH

But in the thread about RPM'sRally's were also mentioned: "There have been other posts regarding the same issue in the past, in particular one comparing the Rally sizes, from 6 up to 14, and the same issue was noted: there was very little difference in the 10 to 12m size but yet a big difference in price.... search the forum for that." So I am rather confused now and will for sure try a 12 m before i buy Thanks for the input to all of you. Look, I'm telling you....I've ridden just about all the Rallys...6, 8, 9, 10,12,14...it doesn't have the issue that is claimed on the RPM 10/12s . The 10, 12 and 14 are all different. My one comment on sizes is that the Rally 14 turns like a much smaller kite so you may want to just get that. If there is any steady wind blowing, you'll be able to ride. But you are 20 lbs. lighter than me so you could use a 12 as your big kite. I know folks who have done 6/9/12 which is probably a very nice spread. I need the 14.

Hi, I own the 8m and 10m RPM, sold my 12m as very similar to the 10m in low end/top end. Anyway I purchased the 14m rally without testing it. I was slightly sceptical but took the plunge. Got to test it last saturday. Turned up at the beach side on wind conditions, 20-25mph with gusts slightly higher. People werte out on kites from 9m to 13m but I wanted to test the 14m so took it out. I am slightly heavier than you guys 215lbs on a 135 x 42 TT. I was completely gob smacked with the range of this kite. It blew me away. I was well powered but I enjoy riding like this. I was tracking up wind better than anyone else. Boosting insane airs once I got the timing dialled. 25-30ft height and the distance was un believable possibly 100ft. The kite felt like a hang glider I just floated for ever steering it all the time before coming back to earth very gently. Overall I am very impressed and this 14m rally 2012, it also had no wing tip pinch at all and I am a heavy/aggresive rider ( i did pump it up to 10 psi as recommended though). I believe I have the perfect quiver of kites now. 14m rally 2012 10m RPM 2012 8m RPM 2012 I am one happy kiter, I cant recommend it enough. I know the Rally will be good from about 12kts. I also let my brother have a ride who is 85kg he held it down no problems slightly depowered. Also boosting huge airs. He almost landed on the beach so give yourself plenty of room if its windy.
