Hi, I'm in the market for a big second hand kite and I found a 2009 best nemesis hp 14m and an 2010 airush lithium 13m. Thy have the same price and wondering which one will feed my needs better. I'm a beginner and need a forgiving kite for the gusty conditions we have here and help me going upwind easier.

The Nemesis goes upwind like a rocket due to the super thin Cuben leading edge, but it's a plenty powerful kite that requires a steady hand on the accelerator. if you really are a beginner it might be a bit much for you.

13m Lithium was LW model, very grunty power horse, not good for gusty wind. Nemesis is much better option.

I do agree with BigOne. The Lithium LW 13 is more like a 15. It is built for lightwind riding in mind.

What is your weight?
What is the wind range you want this kite to work in?
What is your next kite size down?

if you really want a kite for gusty wind then you want one that isn't twitchy and you want depower that goes on forever. In which case the Nemesis might be the right choice. It's certainly more impervious to gusts than just about any kite out there due to the much reduced frontal profile.

I haven't ridden the airush but most beginners don't like best nemi's. it's a very specialized kite for big air. and it requires good timing to jump so if you can't already jump reasonably high, you'll jump better on other kites anyway.

and how gusty is gusty for you? gusty is kind of a local word depending on what's normal. if you can call a local shop to get advice that's a good starting point. yes they might steer you to brands they carry but they might also have swap meets and some ideas for your budget. i find most shops want you to safely and happily get into kiting so you'll be a long term customer. they know that even if they get a small commission this year you'll be back next year for new lines, a better board, another kite, a wetsuit, a harness, a smaller bar, and now let's try a surf board, and ...

Thanks for your replies guys. The airush was sold before I made my decision so I went with the nemesis. I'm very happy with it so far. Yesterday I had a great session with it . Going upwind was never easier for me in combination with a nobile t5 2010 board. I also tried some small jumps and I think I did a good job for the first attempts.
