I don't wanna be a stick in the mud here but do we have to be lectured about safety every time someone does something out of the ordinary with a kite?

Aren't the safety issues obvious... does it need to be said?

Jus a lil steam release... I haven't been out kiting in a bit

That's the difference between jumping off a mountain gliding down and jumping a pier. When you jump a pier it's exciting and half the people will lecture you about safety the other half will admire the jump. When you glide off a mountain . . . frankly it is as dull as watching paint dry. So all that is left is the safety lecture and wondering if maybe he'll hit the power lines.

Come on guys, go buy yourselves some speed wings and do some real gliding.

What an incredible video! Blew me away. I'd luv to try something like that on a much smaller scale if possible. I still have dreams of flying over tree tops... is the speed wing the next logical progression for me I wonder?? haha!! no chance... i'm scared of heights

Thanks for sharing that :)

Speed Flying has a distinct disadvantage to gliding with a kite while snowkiting. With a speed wing, you need to find a ride to the top of the hill unpack your wing, fly down, pack up the wing and then get back up to the top of the hill. While on a kite, use the kite to go up the hill, fly down, turn around and use the kite to ride up the hill again.

Like Wayne, I have been dropped, mine was due to a manufacturing omission, the rivets were not installed on my bar. I use a ram air kite, not so much for safety as I like a big wing.

What if there's no wind or it's in the wrong direction? Either option would be fun though. If you look in that video I think there's lots of spots you couldn't kite up... they look like they're flying right off a cliff... other spots you could likely fly up.

YEA BUT :

A Speed-wing has a bridle system that can take ACRO ----
while the guys kite-boarding KITE, that's being used to to jump off mountains
is good for 1 to 1.5G's "At Best" !!!

In other words : " i would NOT use a kite-boarding KITE, to jump off a mountain ; but
i would ski off a mountain with a speed wing anytime someone would
agree to pay me $10K" !!
I can fly a PG quite well and a speed-wing is near the same, till it comes
to take-off & landing, then Ya need more energy or speed.

Just so Ya know , at one time i was # 4 in the world at ACRO on a HG, so
the above about not jumping off mountains with a product that isn't designed
for such is a Really Good suggestion ---------------DON'T DO THAT !!!

There are people in the past who tried to get me to do Heroin, something about
being Cool ?
My response was the same : DON'T DO THAT, and :
" i'll stick to Beer, Pot, & Pussy thanks" !!

Your NOT COOL jumping off a mountain with a Kite-boarding kite.
You Could use a medium PG with a different set of lines attached
to the bridle and be a LOT safer. it would fly a bit like a Speed-21 by flysurfer.

OH YEA -- & go take PG lessons !!
