Hi guys,

I currently have the 6'1 2011 Tyrant which I really love. BUT it had some manufacturing errors and now I received the 2012 model.

The new one is thicker 2.5" instead of the older of 2.25" and it's also a slightly heavier and a tiny bit narrower.

Now I still have the old one, and before using the new one, I would highly appreciate your feedback on it, because on paper the old one seems better.

I really like it's pop, early planing ability and I am only riding it strapless.

Any feedback appreciated!

I have a question. Can anybody confirm all the dimensions on the 2012 Tyrant 5'11" I read somewhere that its 19" wide and not sure if that's correct. thickness?

i have a couple new 2011 tyrants 6'1" available at discount if anybody is interested.

thx ulx yeah that is where i read it but seems there were a bunch of mistakes in that thread.

says the 6'1" is 18 3/8 and still considers the 5'11" being the high wind board but at 19" wide that would probably be opposite. anyway I am hoping its 19" that could be a really nice board. just need to confirm this before the order goes in.

I'm sure SS guys will get back to my email too shortly.

I am thinking about finally buying a directional and learning to ride one.
Been on twintips and skims in flatwater for a long time, never learned to jibe a directional.
Slingshot describes the 2011 Tyrant 6' 1" as an expert board.
I wonder what that means and if the Tyrant might be OK to learn on.
Like a lot of people, I'm going to take it out in flat water and mess around and practice turning jibing for a while and then go to waves. Figured I would not use straps to make that easier.
So, will the Tyrant suffice?...or are there a lot of better choices?

Thanks guys confirmed, board is 19" wide 2.5" thick confirmed from the catalog.

won't be a problem learning on this board at all and I do agree that its an advanced board in the sense that its pretty narrow and gunny and my current go to board if it looks like anything over 5ft. rode it in the bay(flat) yesterday still a fun board.
i haven't tried the 5'11" but i would think it to be slightly more stable but either way you wont have problems jibing either board.

Is a 5' 8" Celeritas or 5' 10" Dialer or the Verve 6' 0" (or whatever) better for a beginner to learn on?
I figured a Dialer with it's large surface area, would be good to learn on, but maybe not as much fun later, but I really have no clue.
Are there certain board models that have been favorites for learning?
I don't know what characteristics make a good directional for learning.
Time for me to do some reading here, looks like.

I'd go the 5'8 Celeritas as my first pick. Once you get that one figured out you will know what you want out of any additional boards.

The Celeritas is nice and flat rockered so you'll rocket upwind in light winds. Its small and slashy and will be a blast in anything short of real big waves.

The Tyrant is pretty sweet. Tried it briefly last year and it was all the general good fun a shortboard tends to be, but it needs a little more juice for onshore windswell.

The Tyrant is a nice second board if you already have the Celritas.

Then again it all depends on conditions...... Flat to big lake sweel go the Celeritas, then add the shortboard later. Ocean conditions, go directly to the tyrant and spend some time in the flats getting to know it first.

You'd love the Dialer. Fun for everything you describe and you'll tear it up oceanside as well.

I'm actually looking at a Tyrant as a high wave board myself, but still love my Dialer.
